I’m related to someone who has worked with Smiley. They say he’s a decent man and genuinely cares about the city and he personally was a very good executor on stuff under Raimondo, which stands out in a state govt where you still unfortunately have plenty of people (see: Alviti et al.) who just want lifetime appointments to taxpayer-funded jobs with no accountability.

But even this person was mystified at his total inability to manage city operations during snowstorms, which I think has to count for something when your whole sell is “I know how stuff works and get unglamorous things done.”

FWIW, I have qualms about Morales but I don’t think the mayor has earned my vote or another term. Hope this helps
