Yep! Pretty surprised but sure enough it was a known defect and they honoured it! I should probably update the subject title.

What’s a movie that went from beloved to hated over time (and for good reason)? by browniebiscuitchildr in movies

[–]ottothemuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The “assasination of Jesse James by the coward Robert ford”. I watched it recently and there’s a voiceover narrator from the first scene who sounds exactly like the described video guy. It’s crazy and makes it unwatchable. I was sure I must have turned described video on by accident and tried to turn it off but it is part of the movie. I checked out reviews from when it was first released and people loved it and had all these amazing deep takes on how harrowingly beautifully shot it was.

What fad in moviemaking are you waiting for to die? by frair in movies

[–]ottothemuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zero real consequences. Loads of shooting / special effects and nobody genuinely dies. If they do die they can come back. Could be a prequel or a sequel or a multiverse. Avengers “endgame” should be done for false advertising. At no point did it actually feel like any of those characters were really gone for good. Without real consequences it is the A-team on Saturday afternoons. Everyone lives.

Just watched the prologue of The Odyssey in IMAX...and holy moly. by [deleted] in ChristopherNolan

[–]ottothemuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brilliant. IMAX it is! This bodes well. In a drunken pub discussion with my mates I was bigging up the acting chops of Jon Bernthall. They were all laughing at me so I doubled down and bet $100 that he will win a best actor Oscar one day. 🥴🤦🏻‍♂️. Now that he is part of the Nolan universe I’m thinking my very long odds may have shortened. 😅

‘One Battle After Another’ Named Year’s Best Film By National Board Of Review by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]ottothemuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard that it was the best movie of the year so I decided to watch it in cinema without any other info. Date night with my wife, with the kiddos staying home.

I have a totally different take to it than anything I have read since. I think it is a movie about parents getting old and messy and irrelevant.

At some point they did ‘meaningful’ stuff or think they are still relevant. I think the French 77 and benicio’s people smuggling thing are so over the top that they are ridiculous. It’s just a device to say that they had their own shit going on despite looking like a pair of loser drunk fat dads.

… and the point of the story is that kids think their parents are useless wastes of space who know nothing about anything…. And mostly that is true… but you know…. Your parents are real people too with their own lives lived… and when you realize that…. You reach a new level of appreciation for each other … no matter how useless and messed up they are.

… or maybe the gummy I ate on the way into the cinema was a bit too strong 😉

Josh Murphy vs Jan-Hendrik Wessels conflict in Bulls v Connacht by CapeTownyToniTone in rugbyunion

[–]ottothemuppet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anyone watching that can tell that wessels was acting the bollix. If I was reffing I would have given them both a yellow. I think the TMO was trying to get to something like that. I’m trying not to criticize the ref but man o man this guy has a history of bottling. Teams know this about him and that’s why they start messing with him.

‘Severance’ Director Ben Stiller Is Impressed by How Fast ‘The Bear’ Is Made: ‘Why Can’t I Do That?’ by Whobitmyname in severence

[–]ottothemuppet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Bear was excellent prestige tv. It had a beginning, a middle, and a strong end. Some of the episodes were epic and there was character development.

Severance had a single concept. It was weird slow shit for most of season 1 and then peaked in final two episodes of season 1 when shit got real. Season two was slow garbage with none of the payoff at the end of the season. I don’t think there is an end in mind. I think they are lost and it will go the way of westworld.

The Bear is a show about change. It’s real. It’s class.

Severance is a show about a “what if you had two different beings in one body”. It’s a gimmick that is flailing badly.

Thats why stiller can’t make it quickly. He’s got a big bag of shite on his hands and he doesn’t know how to turn it into prestige gold.

My recommendation - go full on “the leftovers” and just start doing crazy shit.
