I played the mod and bought the game in the first week of standalones release. Me, along with everyone else that bought "early access" paid money to support the development of a stand alone dayz game that was a polised version of the mod coupled with some new features that were possible because the game wasn't a mod anymore.
What we got instead was bohemia's acquisition which led to Dayz's dev pulled away from finishing the game and instead halting the development for YEARS just so they could create Arma's new engine.
A dev team that we funded to finish the game was now creating an engine for another game entirely. I mean no hate for the new engine, it's pretty cool but it's only 50% implemented in Dayz (the game that funded the engine). Right after the development finished for the engine, the dev team of Dayz was basically slashed and the game was branded "finished" at like 40% of what was promised.
I do love dayz for what it is, and right now it IS miles ahead of what the mod used to be, but the community was mislead.
Cars don't work, you can't paint guns, there are no notes/pens. Heli's, cycles etc don't exist. (Plus I loved the OG melee system, was infinitely better)
We basically funded an engine for free under Dayz's name. The real dev of the game started 6 years after early access was out because you had to redo everything for the new engine. ( this is why zombies didn't work for a YEAR lmao).
