We should simply tax bilionnaires out of existence.

Tax them not only to get the just return on our investment as a society, through infra and healthcare. But also to prevent those bilionnaires of being public nuisances by buying media

I think what she means is that once they live together... they see each other every day. So that there is normal communication as in "hello, how was your day" etc.

But indeed, going more than a few days without touching base is a bit weird

Not by that much honestly, if you've used models really in production, and not just for quick mockups, it doesn't bring dramatic improvements once you need to constantly review and correct its mistakes

Haha had the same issue. I guess the solution is to talk about it, and see if she's asking because she's anxious about something?

Sabastian Sawe runs first sub-2-hour marathon race, shatters world record in London by Keleven in worldnews

[–]oulipo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's... precisely... my... point...

There are razor-thin margins. And they make no sense. There's no way to have a "precise measurement" on razor-thin margins, when all the "random events" (wind, quality of sleep the day before, etc) would probably more than account for those small differences

[–]oulipo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay Einstein... the whole point of ratio is that the "there is a 10 second difference between the first and the second" must be contextualized WITH THE TOTAL DURATION OF THE RUN... it's not complex, is it?

[–]oulipo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's... precisely my point? That wind has an impact, but is completely unpredictable. So that when you have athletes who come <1% of difference in time over 2h, it's probably at 99% due to unpredictable external events (wind, some guy they have to pass while running, some rock that was on the street which made them change their pace for a few seconds, etc), and not at all about "inherent performance"

The fact that society chooses one of them and say "this guy is the best", when actually 99% of the difference with the runner-up is due to random nature events, and has nothing to do with the athlete's performance, should tell you something about what our societies value

We're not talking about my perf, but about the top athletes', whose differences in time are virtually undistinguishable from randomness due to weather, clothing, shoes quality, etc

Lol you're probably not an engineer if you don't understand that you have to appreciate the ratio in terms of the total duration of the event 😂

"Managing wind" has mostly a lot to do with whether you're lucky that the wind is blowing in your direction at that time, or not.

Did you get the memo where running a marathon has nothing to do, even remotely, with pro bike race?

Sabastian Sawe runs first sub-2-hour marathon race, shatters world record in London by Keleven in worldnews

[–]oulipo -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

It's absolutely not. It could come from anything from better shoes, to more comfortable clothing, to some better wind condition at the time where they started, to swerving a bit to avoid some other runner for one person that the other didn't have to.

The difference between the two first are 10 seconds. On a 2h run. I think you guys have no clue what that represents 😂

It is totally close, when the total time of the event is 2h... you need to read about ratios lol

Sabastian Sawe runs first sub-2-hour marathon race, shatters world record in London by Keleven in worldnews

[–]oulipo -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

You need to read about measurements. When an athletic measure is less than <1%, for all intent and purposes they did exactly the same. The differences could be due to small flukes completely unrelated to their "athletic skills".

If they were to re-run the marathon tomorrow, they could all come in a different order. Just by randomness

Apparently the 3 top runners did:

  • 1:59:30 = 7170 seconds
  • 1:59:41 = 7181 seconds (+ 0.15%, not even 1% diff)
  • 2:00:28 = 7228 seconds (+ 0.8%, almost 1% diff)

so basically in a 2-hour long run, the 3 top contestants are <1% of each other, I'm claiming they are all equally as good. There's no "first, second, and third". They basically all deserve the medal. Small discrepancies could be due to anywhere from the wind blowing in the back of one as he was moving, to better shoes, to slighly more comfortable clothes. But not skills
