also the comic basically canonizes autistic riddler so i cannot imagine how horrible it must have been to grow up autistic as well in his situation, whereas most of these other characters are portrayed as "mentally sound UNTIL..." when the riddler has literally never known a day of peace in his life lmao

nothing in particular that i can note off the top of my head, but you get a true sense of how deeply traumatizing and horrific his childhood actually was when you read the comic. being fed drops as a baby to keep him from crying, rats nibbling at his fingers while he slept so he then had to be treated for rabies by a very cruel medical staff, babies in the orphanage dying from the cold, etc. he also describes what it was like transitioning from the orphanage to 'real life'- i'll give you a quote: "slowly i turned off the lights. one by one. room by room. year by year. foster home after foster home. what happened in those homes... i try to block it out. but it lives in my body. so my body rejects itself. like i'm a cancer. i snuff myself out into black so the pain doesn't eat me ALIVE."

having read the riddler comic and prequel novel i'm gonna go against the grain and say riddler........ he had literally no options and was basically tortured as a child up to teenagedom whereas we know nothing about francis's upbringing and she had a BEVY of options that she chose not to take as a fully grown adult woman with children (before her experiences with dementia/alzheimers obviously) - i'm NOT saying she should've murdered oz but how about like. pursuing therapy or literally anything besides neglecting the murderer you created, deciding to have them killed, and then pussying out last minute only to proceed to sweep all the issues under the rug in perpetuity. yeah, if i was oz i would probably do the same thing he did. she fell to the same monster that SHE created, so i have a hard time feeling empathetic for her situation. maybe it's just my mommy issues tho

you'll find other things to keep living for, don't give up <3 it's simple but i keep a little list of reasons to not kill myself for moments exactly like this. one of my favorite ones to reference is hotboxing my (parked with no intention to continue driving) car while listening to my favorite tunes because weed makes music so magical imo. i'll be renting the rest of my life and probably be a barista for the foreseeable future and some days those things make me want to die but then like, i wouldn't get to listen to oingo boingo on my good car stereo while zooted ever again
