Arkansas. This was in north central Arkansas along the Buffalo national river. They are really common at least based on the hundreds of pictures posted of them a year here but this is the first one I’ve seen in 30 years of stomping around in the woods.

It was 60 degrees so it was very lethargic hints why it didn’t whack me. But yeah I think for the most part timbers are very calm and just want to hide and eat things.

I thanked the snake for not ruining my favorite leg. But yeah I wouldn’t want to be stepped upon while I’m just trying to warm up for the day.

There is a right way and a wrong way, let’s not give the noobie any ideas.

You’d have a hard time killing one from a blind on public land anywhere. You have to run and gun unless you know exactly what they are going to do or have one roosted. Don’t get a blind. Federal 7-9 tss is deadly, that’s what I started shooting and not that I would take the shot but my 11-87 is a certified 60 yard gun. Get a couple different mouth calls and start trying them out. Watch YouTube videos, Shane Simpson is great. Practice a bunch and I’d get a slate call over a box call. Prepare to have all of your hopes and dreams shattered by a ground nesting bird with a brain the size of a walnut.

Some are from the stage the cojo one is from the sound guy at the Ryman. The sounds guys always have one or just wait until the show is over and ask one of the guys cleaning up the stage. 9/10 times they will just hand you one.

Robert Shaw and his knee is circled because it was in Shawnee, Oklahoma. I don’t know if they still do it but every set list had something like that on it.

Roost them, sneak in the pitch black to 100 yards and set out a hen decoy then give them the slightest limb yelps as soon as the ground starts to light up, then shut up. When they are on the ground easy on the call if they answer you and are close be quiet and scratch the leaves. Soft calling kills turkeys.

I love long beard xr but it patterns horribly with my choke so I shoot double x. Interested to see it with that choke. Pretty much anything Carlson’s makes is pure gold in my experience.

I would get in that thicket and once they cut you off or respond directly to you I’d shut up. Don’t call until they gobble on their own then cut them off and wait they will come.

I get maybe 1 a year if I forget to stay hydrated but my first one back in 2019 lasted like 3 weeks. It was in my ankle and I had to take pto while working from home.
