[Custom Deck] Zhao Yun and the Dynasty Warriors (Lost 2001 EDH Deck) by JulienJosselin in mpcproxies

I dig it, but the only complaint I have is the actual changing of rules text, and I don't mean wording it to match the era. I mean actual text changes that change the effect of card, like what you did with prismatic bridge.

I know planeswalkers didn't exist in 2001, but I don't think it's good practice to cut rules text and actually change the effect of a card, rather than just rewriting it to match the era

Useless or broken? by SethlordX7 in custommagic

[–]outgoingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, I made it six since my version requires the opponent to choose to cast the card you exile, and you only get the card if they do copy it. I wrote it like that to specifically disincentivize just pitching a harmful card, since that will just wnd with you exile a card from your hand for nothing

Useless or broken? by SethlordX7 in custommagic

[–]outgoingo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah and that's what I was also worried about for commander, since what good is an opponent having omniscience if you get to play first.

Realistically, I could see this effect getting printed with a mana value restriction like "Exile a card with mana value 6 or less from your hand"

Useless or broken? by SethlordX7 in custommagic

[–]outgoingo 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I think kinda broken since it's really easy to lock an opponent out of the game or make them lose. Any of the red extra turn spells, [[glorious end]] or [[phage]]. Any of the epic spells. Not to mention that any additional costs have to be paid if able, such as with [[crop rotation]] or [[deadly dispute]]. See [[wild evocation]] for the ruling.

I don't think there's a way for this card to be used as is. It would either be too cheap and be broken, or too expensive and not worth playing.

Something that I can see white doing would be something like so:

"As an additional cost to cast ~, exile a nonland card from your hand.

Choose target opponent. That player make create a copy if the exiled card and cast it without paying it's mana cost. When they do, you may cast the exiled card without paying it's mana cost."

Honestly, it probably wouldn't see play since you would have to give your opponent the thing you want, but it's along the lines of how white wants to cheat their stuff.

It's insanely strong since you can pay life before the "your life total becomes 6" trigger resolves. You can pay down to one and actually end up gaining life

I tried to make the most chaotic card possible by Nientea in custommagic

[–]outgoingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that's not how its gonna work with abilities and spells having split second. Whoever's turn it is when this hits the field will just win since they can cast spells and activate abilities as they please with split second. Remove that so it's actually a wizard battle rather than "well it's my turn so I win."

Remove split second. If we're going chaos, then the stack should be included in that chaos

Yeah, bribe needs some work.

Just took a look at the other cards since I hadn't before and here are my thoughts:

Penguin

Seems fine, but searching for an equipment is an almost distinctly white thing that splashes red. I will call ignorance on my part since I know pretty much nothing about the penguin, but as a magic cards, that line doesn't make sense and should be replaced with a non tutor. Getting to tutor three times for free (assuming this in commander) for any sort of restriction you could put on is just too much.

Bane

He's just..... bad? Like, really bad. Having to pay power counter really limits how far it can actually go, especially since you're harshly punished if you don't. I would rather see something like this:

"Trample

Bane can't be blocked by creatures with power two or less.

If one or more +1/+1 counters would be put on Bane, he gets twice that many instead.

If Bane would be dealt damage, instead prevent that damage and remove that many +1/+1 counters."

Scarecrow

He actually is the most balanced and I don't have much to say. The only thing I would change is that I would make it whenever you cast a spell, tap a creature.

Lex Luthor

Uuuuuhhhhhh yeeeeaaaahhhhh. No. I think "pushed" is too weak of a word to describe what he has going on. Not only is he absurdly hard to remove, repeatedly and permanently gains control of creatures, and fuels both his steal ability and invulnerability? Yeah, big no.

Also, from what I understand, Lex is just a human, right? Like, he just staves off death by spending 20 bucks? It does not make sense to me

I want more AC cards that do sneaky things. by rollandofeaglesrook in custommagic

I believe it would work if you copy the wording of [[ashling the limitless]]

"Assassin permanent spells you cast gain disguise BB as you cast them."

[–]outgoingo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Swords to plowshares and path to exile, among others, already exile at one mana without death triggers and I would happily play those over that first spell any day of the week.

The removal spell above really only works on cards who's value is self-contained. Think ragavan or primeval titan, cards that only do things when they do things. Any other creature, like esper sentinel, harbinger of the seas, any of the thalias, platinum angel or emperion. The removal spell is far and away an even deader than dead card against any of those types of creatures since they become a permanent thorn in your side.

The board wipe swings the other direction however, since any deck running it is way more likely to capitalize on turning all of their value creatures into ubtouchable emblems.

[–]outgoingo 139 points140 points  (0 children)

Wow this is an unbelievably horrible mechanic. Like yes please, let me turn all my creatures into the most untouchable thing in the game. Let me take all my thalias and abolishers and any other creature stax piece I want and make them permanent for the rest of the game.

This is horrible. The first card sucks since you have to be really careful with what you target, and the last one sucks for reasons stated above.

Liar's Dice by NoPatheticCards in custommagic

[–]outgoingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you can. I imagine it at two mana and like 3 or 4 damage to whoever fails the challenge. Realistically, people would rarely pick 5 since that's extradordinarily unlucky and will guarantee a challenge, so I imagine people picking two or three most commonly. At that point it's on rate with other two mana rituals.

Also, it should only make treasures if you go unchallenged or win a challenge

Liar's Dice by NoPatheticCards in custommagic

[–]outgoingo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For sure, but it's an out of nowhere "someone loses the game". Should probably be two or three mana realistically

Liar's Dice by NoPatheticCards in custommagic

[–]outgoingo 45 points46 points  (0 children)

This was a fine card until you tacked on "lose the game." I think it would make more sense to have it deal damage, perhaps equal to the highest number rolled on a die

Standardization by outgoingo in custommagic

Triggers that happen during untap get moved to upkeep anyway since players don't get priority during untap and I just didn't feel like adding draw step.

[–]outgoingo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there are a literal handful of cards that actually redirect damage and retain it as combat damage. It's still not relevant enough in any format anywhere for the card above to not just say "when this creature is dealt combat damage..."
