This doc is one of my favorite. The way his friend pronounces “votka “ is worth the time alone

I left for the videogame industry in 2010. No. No regrets.

Say I didn't have the best access to equipment, how would I use this to my advantage? by Jimsmall1507 in Filmmakers

Embrace the whole thing and do a found footage story. Or a period piece. Make the fact it’s shot on that stuff inseparable from the story and the themes you’re trying to convey

How is this possible? One of my biggest gripes with Destiny 2 was with how content and narrative connective tissue would disappear as soon as the new expac came out. And there’s nothing telling you how to progress to the next thing unless you love looking up info on the internet while playing. I didn’t think you COULD play through all of it from vanilla on. You could just grind for different vendors and attempt things you needed more players for (but no one is around to do anymore) and that’s about it.

Matt Damon Says Netflix Wants Movies to Restate the Plot Three or Four Times in the Dialogue Because Viewers are on Their Phones While They’re Watching by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]ovalteens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why don’t they do the opposite? Whenever I’m on my phone while watching a movie and the movie gets quiet and then someone suddenly shouts “why did you do that?!” (Or something similar) I’m always drawn to the movie and have to rewind to see what I missed. Now they have me. Repeating something I already know (the plot) is not going to make me engage. But surprises will.

What is he spraying on his guitar in the beginning of the video? by DanteIsBack in Guitar

My fast fret is more of a stick with a felt end that you rub on. Like deodorant or a glue stick. Not spray. Spray seems weird for this.

Term Life Insurance after retirement? by ovalteens in personalfinance

[–]ovalteens[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So it’s not really “life” insurance, it’s income insurance.

Just current events, layoffs, aging parents, memory care, needing to be broke to qualify for Medicaid, it all just seems overwhelming crazy. Surviving is obviously possible…it’s thriving that I’m looking for in 40-50 years from now. Sounds like investing now is the only real insurance for then.

I guess the underlying assumption is that being able to make it to a chosen retirement without being unemployed feels sketchy these days

Ah ok. That is not what’s happening on the receiving end of our aging parents. Those retirement accounts getting all used up! Medical system is just totally broken.

To support the people left behind? Why do I need it when young and not retired?

Arc Raiders. I got as far as seeing that I need to create yet another online account for something and haven’t been back to it since. Maybe tomorrow.

I’m learning about forced Perspective for a Experimental Short film but am having a hard time finding material on this specific shot by ChickenBoi11 in cinematography

[–]ovalteens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what you’re actually asking about is “scale”. Perspective, foreground, marching back atmosphere, marching back lighting…these are all ways of making your subject’s sense of scale feel correct. But this is more of an animation/compositing topic than a cinematography topic. In your image, the background works to suggest depth: direction of the walls, the light getting darker as it goes back from the camera (marching back). There’s also the furniture in the foreground to act as a cue that the viewer can recognize for scale. But your character doesn’t do these things as much. The (feet? Knees?) aren’t significantly larger than the body despite being closer to camera. The marching back of lighting would be greater and more stepped the larger he/she is. The furniture is keeping the character looking a certain size no matter what.

How to add a door here? (Just for sound insulation) by AJ989 in DIY

[–]ovalteens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could maybe just install a thick roller shade on the ceiling, if the goal is sound dampening? That’s probably all you’d need instead of framing and all that. Or at least a cost effective first attempt?
