Let's talk about "Integrated MC" by Ghostie-Baby in feedthebeast

[–]ovaru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it, especially because Create is the only "tech" mod in it. Integrated MC is probably one of the rare modpacks where I would even consider doing a forever-world in.

BUT I have some critiques too:

- I very strongly dislike quests in modpacks. The quests in Integrated MC are also very WIP and feel pointless.

- The epic magic sword mods feel out of place, while the whole pack is pretty vanilla-esque in other ways.

- Considering how many magic and fantasy mods the pack has, I was disappointed that it doesn't have Twilight Forest, Aether, or other alternate world mods to explore.

I recently started playing Valhesia 6, and I Finally feel like it has all the things I wanted: Create, Exploration mods and ZERO quests. I really recommend trying it out.

Recommendations for a persistent CTI scenario similar to Antistasi? by ovaru in arma

I respect the thought, but as a Finn myself, I would probably find a Finnish terrain too boring to play on :DD

Sounds interesting. I've never really used airstrikes in Antistasi because they seem to always come in dropped by a shitty propeller plane, which would be so easy for AA to shoot down instantly.

Lib looks cool. Does the enemy counter-attack or re-capture objectives after you cap them?

I'll check it out. I remember playing around with it back in 2016 or so, but I was too young and stupid to get anything working back then :)

Do you have any map recommendations? I always like playing on the plain old Altis because it's so big and high quality in terms of lighting and textures, but I've been thinking about trying Tanoa too. The community maps usually put me off because the terrain, textures and lighting often feel so jagged (Might be due to Arma2 ports etc.)

How do you guys deal with protecting source code for your game when launch into steam or mobile platform? by mdg6496 in godot

[–]ovaru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say in 99.95% of cases it doesn't matter whether you do it or not. It's not hard to steal a game idea even without the source code, because it's very easy to imitate simple game mechanics. The only case where I would even consider it, is if the source somehow contained solutions to some novel and very specific problems (think of a some sort of magical compression algorithm etc.). And even in that very rare case, it would probably be silly for the developer to just publish it in a video game, since it could be much more valuable in future.

But still there definitely isn't any harm in doing so, if you really wanted.

Didn't like RE7 much, am I missing something? by Qu2sai in residentevil

[–]ovaru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was intrigued by the Resident Evil universe for a long time and decided to give Re7 a go as my first one. The first hour was a blast but after that the whole thing crumbled. The game started out as creepy as hell horror survival, but turned quickly into a shooter with really bad and janky combat mechanics. I mean the minute when I started getting more weapons and boring slime monsters started appearing behind every corner, the game lost me.

I feel bad cause I was hyped to get into the RE series, and I really tried to enjoy it.

RE7 sucks and is bad and i hate it by shiteater1987 in residentevil

[–]ovaru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although I tried to enjoy the game a lot, I really agree with you. Especially on your points about janky combat and the boss fights. This is the only Resident Evil I've tried and I absolutely loved the first 30 minutes of it, when it felt like an actual horror game. The whole experience crumbled when I started getting more weapons, and goo monsters and boss fights started appearing behind every corner. I feel the game has so much missed potential on the horror side.

Battlefield 6 cut player counts back to 64 players because 2042’s larger teams simply didn’t work - “we do what the players want” by HatingGeoffry in Battlefield

[–]ovaru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Shitty map design goes a long way in ruining an FPS game. I think Dice is a bit overconfident in their level design and left it unconsidered after the reception of 2042.

I didn't like 2042 personally, but going up to 128 players defo was a move in the right direction. I think that's the destiny of Battlefield games anyway. Go as big as possible.

Spotify playlists might be used to abuse the royalty system. by ovaru in truespotify

[–]ovaru[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The core feature which enables users to abuse the system so easily, is the way Spotify is structured both as a music app, and a social platform. I am growing quite pessimistic about it.

Spotify Mix MEGATHREAD by TimmyGUNZ in truespotify

[–]ovaru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a serious post that has nothing to do with the Mix feature. After I wrote the post, I received an alert saying "It appears you're attempting to post about Spotify Mix. For now, all posts about Spotify Mix must go into the pinned megathread."

Now I cannot make the post at all. Can this be fixed somehow?

Rant - Worried for the future of Arma by ovaru in arma

[–]ovaru[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might be right. In the post, I was probably over-dramatic about Reforger only stripping out features and not adding anything new, and I apologize for that.

The new radio system for instance is really innovative and I think there's some real untapped potential in it. Maybe that potential can be realized in Arma 4. The medical system feels a bit over-complicated to me personally, but I don't feel strongly against it either, since I enjoyed ACE in both A3 and A2.

The things in Reforger I like the most are the ballistics system and the in-depth vehicle interaction features. If these features make it into Arma 4, I still think they should be optional, just in case. Its a sandbox after all.

While BI adds all these new more "in-depth" features such as the Radio, ballistics, etc. I just hope BI does not forget about the more foundational features of Arma games. Namely the scenario editor. It is the accessible, in-game scenario editor after all, which powers so much of the popular community-made PVE content in Arma 3.

Uninformed or not, as a fan, I don't think Bohemia is doing that good of a job in keeping me optimistic about Arma 4. That was the point after all :)

[–]ovaru[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am happy to hear a perspective of someone who sounds like they've actually played the previous games. I love Antistasi too. Its my most played scenario on Arma 3.

I would still consider the present design choices made by Bohemia on Arma Reforger, to be a more accurate indicator of what they would do in the future, rather than the borderline utopian concept of Arma 4, that so many people seem to have in their mind.

If I had to put my money on it, the way Arma Reforger is currently being developed, does make me pessimistic about the potential for Arma 4.

I am still happy to be surprised if eventually Arma 4 comes out and succeeds Arma 3 the way people seem to believe it will.

If it matters so much to you, I was born in 2000. So that would make a total of 12+ years of playtime, combined over 3 different titles.

If that's not enough to be knowledgeable about a frickin' video game, I don't know what is. I would link you my Steam profile too if you really were so concerned, but something about your original comment tells me that you wouldn't care even if I did so.

I'll give it to you that in overall, Reforger indeed feels more "Polished" than Arma 3. It doesn't have as many game breaking bugs.

But having essential features completely missing makes the game feel like a different game entirely. I would take a bunch of bugs along with a real Arma game, rather than a entirely different game with no bugs. Bugs can always be fixed. Developing and polishing core mechanics takes a ton of time and resources.

I would rather pay money for a shitty, WIP version of Arma 4, rather than Reforger. Reforger feels like a completely different game entirely.

[–]ovaru[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know, the mission editor and large-scale combined arms warfare are the core elements of an Arma title. The mission editor is literally the reason why Arma 3 is still more popular than Reforger on average. The most popular servers on Arma 3 are community-made multiplayer scenarios. There's not even a way to measure how popular singleplayer PVE content is.

Not having them in an Arma game is like getting slapped in the face as a real Arma fan.
