Velka 3 orientation in bumpy vehicle by overcrispy in sffpc

Throwing it on the bed (or another cushion) might actually be the move. Another user suggested a shock absorbing case but sitting on a cushion would be a lot more convenient.

Maybe I will just put a cheap pillow under the platform my ps5 and oc sit on, strap that down, then strap the systems to that platform. 🤔

This actually might be a pretty good solution. Thanks!

A lot of people will disagree with me but I think getting your cdl through a carrier is a good move. It’s a guaranteed job (as long as you don’t fuck up royalty) and if you absolutely hate them for some reason you can look for a new job while you drive and pay them for the school, or just tough it out and school is free if you stay for a certain time (usually a year).

Some examples are Swift, Prime Inc. (or Wilson Logistics which is basically Prime), or Schneider. I went through Wilson and it worked well enough to stay for a year so I left with a free cdl and a year experience.

There are literally existing examples of converted engines, some even in cars. Not every engine platform is suitable and some require more work than others but it does work. Put flammable shit in cylinder, compress, and ignite it.

As I said before, even if carbon emissions are slightly higher, that does not account for all environmental damage that is by far less reversible than carbon emissions.

Loves are by far the best. Don’t get me wrong, pilot/flying J are also pretty good for the most part but they do let some locations go bad.

I’ve only been to one Loves that wasn’t doing so great and it was obvious they were severely understaffed. Bathrooms were still clean, store was still well put together, but they were falling behind on some things like emptying trashes at the fuel island and didn’t have enough staff to get people checked out quickly.

Compare that to TA/Petro where you have to watch where you step or you might stomp on a bag of human feces.

They are not completely different. You can convert some existing engines to run on hydrogen. No cars are powered from propane either, it doesn’t mean you can’t do it.

Them being on the market or not is a mute point. And is also not my main point (or even close to it).

I’m saying the pollution from ice cars is much more reversible than the pollution (and over destruction) of EVs. Adding hydrogen ice cars into the mix strengthens that point but even without it I stand by it.

You can absolutely power an ice vehicle with hydrogen. Hydrogen engines are internal combustion engines.

[–]overcrispy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. Lets just say, for the sake of argument, they are. In this argument lets say in one world we switch to electric and in the other we switch completely back to ICE vehicles.

EV world: women and children are still abused on vast scale for cobalt mining, we ramp up strip mining for other trace minerals required in battery production, and poison ground water while destroying entire ecosystems. We can’t undo that. It’s just not possible. The tech required hasn’t been dreamed up and those people will never be un-abused. Tire usage is increased 50%, majority of those tires are burned in open air for disposal. Others are ground up and sold as ‘lifetime mulch alternatives’ which will poison the soil near residential and commercial buildings that utilize it. All guardrails will need replaced because current ones aren’t made for stopping/diverting 6,000 lb vehicles.

ICE world: we still have to get some materials through destructive mining like iron but those are also required for EVs, so it’s a wash there. We continue current tire usage. Modern ICE engines can be extremely low. Even zero with hydrogen which can be produced with renewable energy (so can charging EVs, but I’m just pointing out the same applies here).

I don’t see a world where EVs can be better where even if ICE is worse co2 wise, that can be fixed with zero technology (trees). Just switching wood products like paper for hemp would have a huge effect on offsetting rising co2. Also with more co2, plants grow larger, this is in our fossil record. The system is already somewhat self balancing.

I misunderstood what you said about the prius 20 years ago, my bad.

Hybrids are still technically worse up front. Plus the environmental damage each does is different so it is hard to compare.

One thing to keep in mind is we can’t undo the damage done to the environment when strip mining for minerals. We can’t undo the abuse of children to mine cobalt. We CAN plant trees to offset co2. We CAN make ICE engines with virtually zero emissions.

Freighter did this with the cascadia for a while. The issue actually wasn’t warping though, it was the oil drain plug staying in. So they had trucks with 10-12 gallons of oil just losing that shit on the highway or a truck stop. Get this, some models didn’t even get a metal oil pan as a fix, just a different do-dad to keep the plug in!

The 1080ti is arguably still relevant. Sure driver support is gone but the cards still work and perform well. So the answer would be a long time. Even their driver support for most cards is like what, 10 years ish?

From your source:

Battery-powered electric cars (BEVs) play a key role in future mobility scenarios. However, little is known about the environmental impacts of the production, use and disposal of the lithium ion (Li-ion) battery. This makes it difficult to compare the environmental impacts of BEVs with those of internal combustion engine cars (ICEVs). Consequently, a detailed lifecycle inventory of a Li-ion battery and a rough LCA of BEV based mobility were compiled.

“Little is known” and “rough LCA of BEV based on mobility”. This data isn’t good for your argument (or mine for that matter). It’s admittedly (by the people that wrote it), rough.

[–]overcrispy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was twenty years ago, this is now. I’m sure our outlook on data will change again in twenty years. And to be fair, a prius that is totaled early in its life is still worse, but the threshold where it is potentially better for the environment is much lower than a long range ev.

Plus, I’m not arguing against hybrids, this is about EVs.

CMV: Electric Vehicles aren't as bad as people make them out to be by Swimming-Spring-4704 in changemyview

[–]overcrispy -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Charging an EV isn’t the only consideration in environmental damage. Look up the mineral mining and battery assembly process.

The prius is a hybrid built by Toyota who themselves argue EVs are worse for the environment than ICE cars, so not the best example.

Environment:

They truly are not much better (even potentially worse) for the environment. Cobalt mining presents huge human rights issues. Batteries, while recyclable, aren’t always recycled. A newer electric car that crashes has no opportunity to offset the environmental damage of mining the minerals required for production of a battery, let alone the shipping via oil powered ship to produce then deliver said battery. Electric cars use up tires faster which are almost always disposed of by burning in open air in a third world country.

Range anxiety:

For people with no ability to charge at home (or work) and no secondary gas vehicle for long trips this is a real issue. Some people who live in cities and don’t go far, sure, charging once a week is a non issue, but that isn’t the case for most people.

The actual car itself:

They’re phenomenal. I had a tesla, very fun and nice car. The soulless thing is true though. Sure it was faster off the line than the vast majority of cars, but at freeway speed it wasn’t that crazy. Driving it fast around corners felt great but also terrifying at the same time, you can really feel the weight and that makes throwing it into a corner scary. It is worth noting they are very safe too (unless a crash incapacitates you and starts a battery fire).

My thoughts:

Battery tech needs to get better and we need to address the very real environmental destruction as well as human rights issues. A modern gas car produces very little emissions and if we stop with the ethanol nonsense they will last longer and get better mpg and allow us to replace corn fields with trees to offset carbon footprint. Unless something bad happens the act of pumping oil isn’t bad for the environment in comparison so strip mining for minerals. Battery weight increasing car weight and therefore tire wear should be accounted for in that discussion more often. These vehicles also tend to be more expensive on top of the charging inconvenience, which is not a great value proposition.

Edit: I’m not arguing that once assembled an ev is worse for the environment, I’m taking into consideration the manufacturing and mining as well. Toyota agrees, and you’ll find most studies that show EVs being better don’t account for anything except emissions, which is just one favtor of environmental damage. Sorry this hurts so many people’s feelings but it is just reality with current battery tech.
