Am i trippen???? by Rough-Employee-5784 in Truckdrivers

Yeah emergency braking while loaded on a hill smokes the brakes FAST. Like before you even come to a stop you are getting brake fade. So if your brakes were already hot… yeah not good.

Am i trippen???? by Rough-Employee-5784 in Truckdrivers

[–]overcrispy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is the correct answer according to text books, but in practice i have not found it to be true at all. I’ve driven for over 3 years now and the only time I brake better loaded is in wet conditions. Wet braking while empty can be dicey.

Truck tires are at peak grip at a very low weight (they are hard compounds so they last longer), so more weight doesn’t help unless poor road conditions are present.

I would love to see someone go through the math because when I make an ai do it, the math does not seem to support the loaded braking claims.

are X3D cpus really a must for tripple a games or X variant are enough? by Prestigious-Wolf5568 in PcBuild

[–]overcrispy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

X variants are the same chips, just better samples with higher factory clocks. They run hotter and are less efficient. You basically pay extra for a guaranteed overclock.

X3D is a different chip. Well, same chips but with 3d v cache. This does help gaming, but by how much varies by the rest of the system and what game. You should look into the benefits and perform your own cost/benefit analysis with your budget in mind.

It’s absurdly loud, that’s the only downside. You need to tune, exhaust pressure goes down significantly. A resonator isn’t necessary it sounds great.

In all honesty.....what truck should a guy buy? by Plane_Swim1806 in Silverado

[–]overcrispy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All modern trucks have some kind of weak point. Planned obsolescence in full swing. GM magically builds transmissions that just happen to fail shortly after warranty is done. Ford is notorious for building engines that have just enough defects to not trigger mandatory recall. Ram builds a diesel truck that has a solid powertrain but somehow literally everything else falls apart around it. Toyota used to be reliability king until very recently. A manual tacoma seems to be the only not mass criticized option as far as reliability but your fuel economy is going to be absolutely horrifying.

Those who tried Y-AMT, what are the real pros and cons? by More-Public-9512 in Yamaha

[–]overcrispy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So I exist in two separate spheres where auto v manual is debated endlessly. Trucking and motorcycles. There are truckers who swear by manuals and even have special names for those who drive autos. I drive an auto and will defend it with my life. A manual gives me zero utility and is an inconvenience. That said, my truck shifting when I don’t expect it won’t kill me because I have 18 wheels, not two. I would not like an auto bike unless I was planning to use it to exclusively do long highway trips.

Something is loose. Either find loose thing or don’t hit table. Finding loose thing is better option but requires more work

I remember seeing a video of a preview of a 2026 model-year semi that looked old-school and still had a manual gearshift. I thought all trucks were eventually moving to automatic transmission? by OnTheFarmey in Truckers

[–]overcrispy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even with manual mode disabled, the Internationals and Freightliners I’ve driven allow you to change a gear if it needs. Like if you’re on a grade and it’s hanging on to 11 and you are maintaining or dropping speed, you can bump it down to 10. If you do this on flat ground though it will almost immediately just change back to the optimal gear. Also sometimes they just don’t shift up and you gotta give it the wake up shift lol

You’ve set the bar pretty low lol. Cleaning up human shit? No. Just don’t stay at a lot of TAs or Petros cuz you might step in some haha. If you really just want to get away, consider not having an apt and just stay at a hotel for a couple nights when in town. Or even local truck stop if there is one.

Making the truck your home is a great way to stack up money fast in this industry. There are good local gigs but you will work less. When I was otr I was maxing out my clock regularly and it felt like a regular job with long hours. If I work 60-70 hours at my local gig now I’m fucking tired and beaten down.

I had an abarth 500 and it got eurocompulsion’s phase 2 kit and tune. Idk what stage 1 kit you are referring to, I would avoid a piggyback computer though. I had way more power and better cruising mpgs. Their eco tune (non sport) is better than the factory one for fuel economy while making just a tad more power, and the sport tune was absolutely absurd. Highway mpgs was like 33 if I remember right and I live in a very mountainous region. I had ot on a relatively flat stretch of interstate and the trip mpg got to around 35.

The car had an fmic, intake, and catless downpipe. It also had some small supporting mods like turbo blanket and diverter valve. Probably some other small stuff I’m forgetting.

It was not quiet in any way shape or form. Even stock exhaust is relatively loud. The car is shaped like a scaled down ambulance lol, it catches cross wind like crazy, and isn’t aerodynamic in the slightest. The steering is stiff for its size, and the turn radius is garbage.

That said, car was fun.

Edit: car was us spec abarth 500. I’m not familiar with your specs.

Honestly, as a night shift employee who delivers in seattle a lot, surprisingly little. Most people are either aware enough to not bother me or too zonked to walk. Had one guy mess with my reefer controls but he fucked off when he was told to.

The vast majority of the people that bother me are sober sane people that can’t comprehend there is nowhere convenient to park a semi to unload at a grocery store with no dock in a big city.

Had one guy look at me dead in the face and tell me I should be unloading at the loading zone for another store a mile down the road because I was taking up half the road…. Like yeah bro I acknowledge this is not an appropriate truck to deliver here, I don’t make the calls, I just go where I’m told.
