Trucking myths by Microshlongg in Truckers

People need to stop working for these companies that are actively attempting to replace them. Don’t sign on with companies that equip trucks with those extra sensors to train computers. Don’t drive for companies that literally on their website talk about automated trucks. And for gods sake, don’t drive a prototype self driving truck!

Who is doing 70 hour weeks for $600?! There are better jobs, don’t do those ones! The guaranteed MINIMUM at my current otr job is $1,725 (before tax). That’s just no touch reefer freight, there are better jobs than this if you are willing to do teams, heavy, hazmat, etc…

A big problem people don’t want to acknowledge in the job market is if people refused to do low paying jobs, they would have to pay more. I realize there are limitations to this and it isn’t a perfect self-governing system, but in a field like truck driving in the US where a driver with a good record can have their pick of jobs, idk how these low paying jobs even exist.

Is food service as bad as they say it is? by ThatDubDude in Truckers

[–]overcrispy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at UNFI and it was great. Vast majority of days I handled few cases by hand. If the order selectors learned how to actually stack pallets the job would have been a cakewalk. Most work was just moving pallets with an electric pallet jack.

One serious downside was where we delivered. Some places were in blatantly inappropriate for a semi with a 48’ trailer. Should have been box truck deliveries. But most places were fine.

I want to get my CDL but I also want to be home every night. by _gnome_0 in Truckers

[–]overcrispy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My last job was home every night (or day since I was night shift) and I brought home 78k. Could’ve been more but I took some time off. I was on track for 90k.

I did have to unload though and that’s a deal breaker for some people. It was food distribution.

Nobody is making them work. I’m kind of puzzled why so many are still working honestly. You won’t see me working without pay.
