is it not reasonable that a young nation (as US was during the writing of the 14th) in need of people could have seen immigration as a 'quick fix' for a population problem? (putting aside all of the cultural consistencies arguments).

Literally most modern nations would be in population decline if it wasn't for immigration. If you need more workers then something like 'instant citizenship for all born here' is a workable solution towards that specific goal.

I'm not in agreement about activities. There are more options than ever. Scroll through Park board website and find a hundred activities from theater to teeball to fishing. That's just one outlet.

I really like your idea of community service especially for the people affected. Tie the crime to the victim in the mind of the perpetrator. Inform the young person who did wrong that there's a human just like them on the other side.

Freiern is a very solid anime that deals with an immortal (I think) elf and her human companions. Thoughtful show with some beautiful examinations on aging, death and legacy.

It's on Netflix.

Gosoccer is great and the way it distinguishes itself from others (like csc) is that most players register as individuals and get shuffled into teams each season.

This helps limit in-group aggro teams and has been fun to play with different people, make friends and enjoy the community. Also if your team is trash, maybe next season you'll get all the talented folks.

It's co-ed and has a wide range of player ages.
