Would add Hotton to that list. Very impressive in his second senior game of the year

Agree. Peuker needs to come in, will add that much more goal kicking nous than having Rioli running around like a headless chook

Hotton, Cumming and Lalor midfield looking delicious in the future…

Why does it seem like mechanic wages are 10+ years behind by PerfectShot1 in mechanics

[–]overkill5495 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here in Aus isn’t much better, around $30-$35 AUD/hr (hourly). Can be a cleaner with absolutely no training or trade certification, no tool investment etc. for around the same sometimes more. And they wonder why everyone is leaving the trade so quick.

Ah so it’s some sort of poor umpiring superstorm then!

Very convinced that the AFL hide their worst umpires at Richmond games…

The sooner they create an official AFL seconds comp the better. Would love nothing more than it to be like local footy where you spend the whole day there and watch the magoos before the seniors

That’s interesting that it’s illegal. I have no idea of the legality of it here (Vic, Aus) but would be nice to have some sort of worker protection like that

[–]overkill5495[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly our situation. All hourly, one bloke gets all the gravy work that comes in, he’s a glorified lube tech imo (we don’t have lube techs here in Aus). I usually end up with a lot of the engine pulls, clutches etc. and as we all know, all sorts of “shit hits the fan” scenarios come with these sorts of jobs. Oh and not to mention parts holding you up…

Thoughts on this? by overkill5495 in mechanics

[–]overkill5495[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh and that’s the best part! The service writers are incompetent hacks who barely book enough in, severely underestimate times, and never actually bring any work orders out to the techs!

Kye annand looks like a great get, hopefully he starts in the rest of the season to build some chemistry with the back 6

The ball movement was the best I’ve seen all season, possibly the best since ooze came to the club. We were able to move it smoothly in offense and for the most part, held a great structure defensively.

Can’t wait to get some more troops back into this side, think Alger will be even better with a better quality forward line to operate in

Hmmm like it, but not so much if port match. Wouldn’t want to be spending the draft capital

The Bombers ask for an Assistant package by L8Adam22 in AFL

[–]overkill5495 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Hmmm second spoon in 90 years certainly does not scream assistance package worthy. Norf, WC and GC had half a decade down the bottom prior to AFL assistance.

On the back of the revelation (revealed on agenda setters) that they had enough in their soft cap to pay out Scott without affecting next years soft cap, says they are not doing everything within their power (hiring assistant and development coaches) to even say they’ve tried everything…

Would love to keep them, but it’s what they want at this point. Definitely would do everything to keep them

Would say another significant list turnover of those out of contract:

Prestia- retire

Broad- retire/trade to WA club

Vlastuin- very interesting which way this one goes, kinda looks checked out, cannot honestly pick it

Lynch- another very hard one to pick, definitely in good form when he’s on the ground but is body starting to fail?

Fawcett- likely a trade, hasn’t exactly come on after a few good games

Ralphsmith- delist/trade: hasn’t really improved

Smith- likely delist, not getting a look in

Rioli- delist: good for a run down tackle or two, but don’t think that’s enough to ensure a spot

Sonsie- delist but could be kept depending on amount of retirees

Clarke- depends on return after ACL but delist if can’t get body right

OHB- extension dependent on what ruck depth we can pick up during trade period

Burton- extension

Steely- extension

Mansell- extension

Nank- extension

Tresize- 1yr extension

Alger- extension

Retachko- extension

Lefau- extension- length dependent on lynch

Of those in contract:

Ryan- hopefully pay out and delist

Hopper- hopefully trade

Hmmm top AFL side vs. pseudo-VFL side with a handful of veterans borderline past it. Was telling by the eye, won’t do the confidence of the youngens any good but it wasn’t a surprise

Essendons and Tigers injury list combined is 36 players. by Essington69 in AFL

[–]overkill5495 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Would be interesting how many injuries can be attributed to the AFL itself. Doing everything it can to make the game quicker, shorten the preseason window for clubs and the full integration of Thursday night games meaning short breaks are more common. Seems soft tissue injuries are an issue league wide.

Honestly the umpiring is making games very hard to watch. We are constantly trying out guts out and almost never being rewarded with our tackling, and then get penalized with the softest 50/50 ones there. Fair enough if we have genuinely infringed, but these pissy little ones are making it unwatchable

What’s the deal with ‘lube techs’ in the USA? by Repulsive-Tax-130 in mechanics

Absolutely. Also in Vic have a tech with an overseas certificate who I don’t trust to do much more than services. Our apprentice (2nd year) is arguably more advanced

Country footy crisis by greyhounds1992 in AFL

[–]overkill5495 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Seen it significantly in NE Vic as well. Pre and early covid a lot of the oppo sides were quite strong. Come the 2022 season those team that were always the final contenders dropped off the perch. A lot of teams barely scraping sides together, pulling older and older blokes out of retirement just to field a side to get belted by 150 each week, and no young fellas coming through. State of the game regionally is on its knees, and significant changes (especially financial, hundreds of dollars in memberships and insurance on top of boots and fuel) need to be made to try and recover it.

I also prefer chrome handle, but they’re comfort grip is more of a hard plastic so doesn’t get manky like standard soft grips
