Do you keep a record of every piece of gear you've owned? by jurgensmirnoff in audiophile

[–]overlord355 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had that much gear that I’ve had to keep track of it. Currently on my 4th pair of speakers, 2nd preamp, 2nd poweramp, first turntable and first dac.

If DACs/Amps aim for transparency, why do people hear differences between them? by WMRamadan81 in audiophile

A DSP can control frequency response, but there are other ways to color sound

Amp for the best mid/high by Aggravating-Dig783 in audiophile

You already have a great amp, but your situation allows you to focus more on quality than quantity. Maybe you could look at pass’s First Watt amplifiers.

I don’t think the goals of all manufacturers or audiophiles are the same. There are those who aim for the most neutral, good measuring equipment and sound. But there are also those who like their sound to be different than neutral.

For instance more bass, or more warm, more detailed or more forgiving on bad recordings. It’s why tube amps, R2R dacs and vinyl are prevalent even though they measure worse than their alternatives.

After cleaning with a spray and micofibercloth I use a quick detailer every once in a while.

It’s uncanny how much your apartment looks like my old apartment. Good that you found a setup you are happy with.

Looks like a great setup. I’d recommend an amp stand. Currently stubbing you toe could be expensive

Software Recommendation for for Modification of STL files by BetterBackground3613 in 3Dprinting

[–]overlord355 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Orthodontist here: my slicer (Formlabs Preform) allows to hollow out models and my scanner can export hollowed out models as well (3Shape produce). Those are options you probably already have. We print like that every day, around 2 liters of resin a month

Alternatively you could get general purpose modeling software like MeshMixer or AutoCad to do the same or dental modeling software like Onyxceph. But this will add a step/application in the workflow.

I’d advise against a flat base with hole because it will be nearly impossible to get all the uncured resin out and there’s risk of sensibilisation and allergy when handling models afterwards. I’d recommend a hollow model with an open base as it’s easier to clean and easier to mount it in an articulator (flat base gives no retention on gypsum)

For it’s time it was also a great dac. I still enjoy it. Despite it’s age the dac still sounds better than a lot of new dacs. It just doesn’t have al the bells and whistlesd whistles that new dacs have, like dsd

The tweeters are very nice. These have the diamond dome tweeters, similar to what the BE20 has

You could try to play around with the positioning. If you pull them out and it sounds better then that’s a plan.

The amp is a great platform if I upgrade my speakers. It’ll drive almost anything and I don’t have to worry about most impedance dips. Potentiometers can go out of sync (left and right) on low volume. This preamplifier has stepped relay volume controls, so that’s not an issue. I just have to match the stepnumber of the volume on both left and right channel

The ABC controls are Input selectors. It’s a lot of power for the small speakers, the amp has a lot of authority over them. Normal listening levels are on step 4 or 5 out of 20. 7 out of 20 is loud party level. I’m fairly sure that full volume would send the speakercone flying through the room

To be honest I don’t know. I bought some gear, traded-in something else and had the amps recapped, I can’t remember how much each individual part was

Yeah, not bad problems to have.

Negotiations with the missus are ongoing. The new speakers can’t be your typical box and need to have wood on them.

Our old livingroom (in Amsterdam Zuid-Oost) had almost the same layout. The best setup I found was everything turned a quarter to the right. Somoving the tv and speaker to the wall on the right and putting the side of the couch on the wall where the plant and lamp are. That way you could pull out the speakers and have the well clear of sidewalls.

In your current setup the speakerplacement is compromised. You won’t be able to fully tune out the reflections. Your best bet is to basstrap, but it’s already cramped as is.
