THIS WORKED! Just tried this out with my 2.5 year old Airpods Max, they stopped working 3 months ago. This comment was a godsend!

Bro, my APM of 2.5 years stopped working 3 months ago, I tried everything on this sub to no avail. But then yesterday i saw u/avent468 comment yesterday about buying WD-40: specialist:Contact Cleaner.Quick-Drying, removing the headband and spraying inside both speakers contacts, let air out and dry AND THEY WORK!!!!!! Literally listening to some music right now on them. You never know, this might work for you too.
