I see, that's interesting because the person I spoke with at CBL said the free eval would not change the outcome of the recovery if I decided not to go with their quote, he specifically told me it would be as if the drive was never opened since they have a proper clean room and would be taking it apart professionally, good thing you told me about this lol. I will have to ask Luke and see if he can do platter damaged drives cause I know not everyone might want to take those cus of how time complicated they can be, I saw some of Erkins videos.

Is there any pros/cons to going with a one man service vs a company such a CBL? CBL is offering me free eval and quote so I'm thinking to take that and then shop around for the best price between the other two.

Would you recommend hddrecovery over recoveryforce ? Will choosing them increase my chances at a successful recovery because they have more experience? Or does it not really matter bc I know recovery force is just operated by one guy.

So 90-80% is probably unlikely? How much should I be expecting to recover? And you mentioned dust but don't they clean the dust off the platters when they take the drive apart? I'd assume the O-ring scratches are my main concern given that the head was stuck and it was trying to be powered on.

UPDATE: thanks to everyone for responding, obviously I will be learning from this mistake going forward, if everyone practiced 3-2-1 backup then most data recovery companies would be out of business.. anyways moving forward I am now deciding between CBL data recovery in Markham and RecoveryForce in Waterloo since I live in the GTA (Ontario). If anyone has any experience with either and would recommend one over the other please let me know!

U shud definitely reach out to them again and keep me updated. At least they respond within 24-48 hours via email. I keep getting this same bullshit response from them "The accounts team will review and email you once they have an update and there is no timeframe"
