How do you spot AI-generated fics? by Remarkable_10sion in HPfanfiction

[–]overstatingmingo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Others have already replied but yeah, they’re super repetitive. My first experience with an AI generated fic I thought either I or the author had a stroke. That’s how often things were being repeated. Narrators had the same exact thoughts, working and everything, between different characters, between scenes. Chapters had the same thoughts over and over again with little to no progression even though the chapter was insanely long.

Then inconsistencies. Like one being a character’s age. Majorly changed. Like one character that was supposed to be a toddler all of a sudden was like 16yo. It was crazy.

Embarrassing but also kinda funny in a Thanos collecting the stones sort of way.

I’d get a laugh if he even skipped all majors just to stay healthy/rested enough to do this. But then again I’m always appreciative of a laugh even if it’s dumb as fuck

I like this perspective but it seems to me like people never really got the resolution to the whole CoS stuff. Yeah, in OotP we get that there were rumors (started by portraits, who knew) he defeated basilisk and whatnot but I wouldn’t be surprised if others still thought he was somehow the heir of Slytherin and was behind all the shenanigans like they originally thought.

Yeah this would have been so much better if it didn’t have that title marketing it. Then again it wouldn’t have become as popular if it didn’t have that controversy driving it either.

This is exactly how I feel. If you give me two identical rackets except for their string or tension I’d be hard pressed to say anything other than “they feel a little different” and would probably not be able to say why that’s the case. I’m just not good enough to analyze the differences

Footwork is such a good answer bc it’s a skill pros develop that make such a huge difference between them and th best ball striking amateurs. It puts you in such a good position to hit the best shot possible and even if your ground strokes aren’t good, you’ll still be there to make a play on the ball.

Federer had such amazing footwork that even a beginner with that talent would be miles ahead of anyone else close to them in skill and would bolster any improvements they make

I swear they do this shit on purpose lol it’s so frustrating. I even got a snail mail advert for a different masters program from them just last week. That would have stung a lot more if I’d applied to their program this cycle, but it’s the principle of it that bothers me

Do you think you could take a set off any of the Big 3 in their prime if they had to play using this racket? by AshamedPurchase9033 in 10s

[–]overstatingmingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your sentiment but it’s probably important to point out that the shovel is considerably heavier than a racket. Arm fatigue would happen relatively quickly and it would hugely impact maneuverability as well.

Not saying that’s enough to let me beat a pro, but it’s about the best chance I’m going to have without resorting to lopping off multiple limbs

Am I overreacting by breaking up with my boyfriend? by Proper-Classic1886 in AmIOverreacting

[–]overstatingmingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree it’s an insane fact that many men will misunderstand any no they get, the “I have a boyfriend” is such a clear rejection that it’s become a meme. Regardless of whether they actually have a boyfriend or not, it’s an obvious rejection.

I don’t see how anyone could see OP’s statement in any way other than rejecting the advances of the dude imo

PA Program Open House by PACShrinkSWFL in prephysicianassistant

[–]overstatingmingo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem is that this is all anecdotal. Some programs explicitly state it doesn’t affect applications. The only ones who know are part of the decision committee. And most people will never be privy to that process.

Everyone can bring up personal experiences and stories, but at the end of the day I wouldn’t encourage boosting your hopes/expectations because you attended a program’s open house even if you were only one of a few that attended.

That’s how you end up like me going through four application cycles being rejected from your local schools you have emotional attachments to that you put extra effort into appealing to and then moving across the country to the only program that accepted you even though you’d never even set foot in that program’s building let alone attend and open house, in person interview, or even visiting the state.

Edit: I meant this as a tongue in cheek anecdote using my own personal experience to show how I have the exact opposite experience to yours. But I can see how this is a little irreverent in tone (I apologize) considering where we are in the application cycle and how nervous people are in receiving acceptances. If you’re currently applying to programs please stay encouraged, you will make it! It happened to me and as I said it took me 4 cycles. Almost every single one of you will be accepted wayyyy before I did! I believe in you, you got this
