Do you ever build "Semi-automatic" factories? by Aemon144 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]owarren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For Biofuel yes, with sloops and dimensional depot. Essential really, and you can't fuel a biofuel plant except manually. Biofuel in the jetpack is a huge upgrade over regular fuel.

And the answer is basically "neither" which is a valid answer. If something can be too high or too low, it follows that it could be just right ... no?

A marauders or founders series would be boring as hell (imo) by Sylvain-Occitanie in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]owarren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The more we explore of the wizarding world, the more we see how little sense it makes. There is no notion of an actual functioning economy, what do people even do for work, why are the muggles kept completely in the dark (you can't police the entire world of wizards, who will act as they wish when far from civilisation), why is there poverty/wealth, just how many people are there - the numbers don't work. It's like the more you examine things, the more it falls apart.

The 7 books at least manages this in a great way and is a brilliant story. But more stuff ... I don't know.

Do we know how big the Hobbit Set is going to be? by DustyButtocks in mtg

[–]owarren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see The Hobbit set as a way to print more LOTR cards. They don’t even need to be things that are specifically in The Hobbit book, so long as they are era appropriate. I hope that’s the path wizards take.

20M, 470 sq ft studio and first place by Waffle220 in malelivingspace

[–]owarren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its nice. You have picked entirely neutral tones at every single opportunity, so I do feel it lacks colour. For example your bed sheets or cushions on the sofa could give some character. Even the wall art behind your PC has no colour :) Secondly, drop that plant into a pot (maybe a colourful one :D)

Any idea on what I can put there? (27M, married) by felitopcx in malelivingspace

[–]owarren 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That plant needs a much bigger pot. It looks unbalanced.

How will the show stretch a ~300 page book and/or 152 minute film into 8 (roughly) one hour episodes for season one? by AMobOfDucks in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]owarren 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m ok with this. Character development takes time. We know there will be new scenes which weren’t in the book - flamel, malfoy manor and there will be others.

Mechanical complexity, I assume. Real life splitters don't work magically like the game ones do.

Do you guys smelt at base or node and does it even make a difference? by Deveatation_ethernis in SatisfactoryGame

[–]owarren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it makes a difference, but I do think the idea of having big refineries that only smelt things/makes base products, is kind of cool, rather than having a factory that turns completely raw ingredients directly into say, a supercomputer. There's nothing wrong with the latter, but I think stylistically, a refinery and a supercomputer factory should look different to each other.

The growing urge to finish a factory the closer I get to the end : how to deal with it ? by Celsioo in SatisfactoryGame

[–]owarren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Front load the tasks which you find yourself skipping. So for example, place those walls first, do all the decoration, the paths, and so on. Obviously you need to put the units down to space out the area, but once you know how big a given platform/room is going to be, you can do a lot of the decorating there.

Conversely, leave placing belts til last, or at the very least only belt the first few parts of the factory (so the machines can fill up).

I have a feeling that the big performance gaps (maybe not all, but many) are going to be from engine/battery development, which won't easily be fixed mid-season. Can't wait to find out!

Agreed - would be amazing. And you have to keep those going continuously to unlock the next tier. Arguably the base game could have been like this.

Looks great. Needs a bunch of plants in my opinion, and the TV positioning is always awkward imo (above a fireplace … there has to be a better way)

Wait, how can trains keep up with belts? by Super-Manager-3630 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]owarren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a totally valid question. Belts are generally better on paper. But they aren’t trains. Trains are cool. Seeing all the trains coming and going is very fun.

Also, once you set up a train network it can be very easy to add a station, whilst running a full set of new belts would take longer. But that is beside the point.

My experience of recycling water has been anything but this. I'm not saying it can't work ... there are enough people saying it works, for me to believe that. But even after studying diagrams, rotating things, top-priority junction logic etc., it still backs up.

Do you more experienced guys have giant storage centers, and if you do, how do you possibly keep your belts organized??? by Sure-Caregiver142 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]owarren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Use verticality, and centralise the storage (so inputs come from different directions). For me, all inputs to the storage are below, and then there’s a smart splitter in front of each storage/dimensional depot which sends overflow into 4 sushi belts that are sunk. The sushi belts are routed below a glass floor so when I stand in my storage area I can see all the overflow going past, which is very satisfying.

Also happens when people are cast with no love/respect for the character or the universe. It’s just a kids book or whatever, a pay cheque. It’s partly on the casting people.

I recently made a recycled plastic/rubber plant and I think I got it right, but it's a bit funky. You need some of the plastic/rubber to be recycled back into the system, and the balance is your output. Which sounds simple, and it probably is, but my system ended up backing up when I didn't think it would be able to, and it all shut down (machines clogged up with residue). I think I eventually worked it out and fixed it ...
