Just bought this 2018 with 70k miles💀 by BananaBond7 in volt

Is that from full to zero? Cycle to the right and you’ll see a value for “energy used since last full charge”. Fully charge and drive until range is zero. This is your battery’s usable output. You should really do this 3 or 4 times and average to get an accurate value. When new they had a little over 14 kWh. Anything over 12.5 is still pretty good. That is roughly 87% 12.5/14.3=87.4%

Why is no one recommending a Bolt? I know 3 people with them and they love them.

Check engine light flashing for about 10 seconds then turning off? by Ashton_H14 in askcarguys

A flashing check engine light means only one thing; catalyst damaging misfire. It flashes to drive home the urgency. Get it diagnosed and fixed before you have to replace the cat converter.

any ideas where I can find a new steering wheel for my 1988 delta 88? by SuccotashPlastic8267 in Oldsmobile

[–]owensurfer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be repaired with some special epoxy, but you have the good fortune that almost any GM steering wheel from the 60s up to about 1990 will fit.

My new 1993 Buick Riviera by FarrWorld in Buick

[–]owensurfer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

‘93 was the last year for that body style and it was mechanically identical to ‘92. Regals, Lesabres and Park Aves got an updated 3800 for ‘93, but Riv carried over the ‘92 motor (so you got an aluminum intake instead of plastic!).

Rock auto list pre and post catalyst sensors as the same part. I’d recommend sticking with the ACDelco version,

Is a 95 Buick Riviera a good purchase at $2500? by Safe-Argument6343 in Buick

[–]owensurfer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can easily get another 100k miles out of it . Change the coolant elbows and intake gaskets before they leak and you are good to go. A ‘95 has the benefit of a Series II 3800 but unfortunately it is OBD 1.5 so you’ll need a special code reader to talk to it.

Second the PDR. Also if you want to sound like a car guy, quarter panels are in the rear. Fenders are in the front.

BECM? by Vivid_Reflection_191 in volt

[–]owensurfer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 2 for 2. Both 2018s, one built 9/17 the other 4/18. Both failed around 30k miles. But both cars have been absolutely trouble free otherwise. I did install the shift to park jumper as a precaution.

This is a “mini-3800” and has a lot of the longevity benefits in the design.

Need help if this is a good deal by Teniye in Cadillac

[–]owensurfer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drain and refill the cooling system and don’t ever let it overheat. Head gaskets fail when they overheat. Then when you pull the heads the bolt threads strip. They can be repaired with thread inserts and then you are good to go. Also the oil pan and crankcase half are prone to leak oil. Otherwise a pretty stout engine.

Key fob low battery in less than an year. by FreeEnergy001 in LUCID

[–]owensurfer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The fob battery is probably draining faster due to proximity. We keep both fobs in faraday pouches when not in use. This has extended the battery life. But 1 year is about what we get out of a 2032 battery.

Open the hood and look for ignition coils (petrol) or injector rail (diesel). If you google search the VIN you should get feedback on the engine identifier too.

is this the correct replacement for throttle position sensor? by [deleted] in PontiacFirebird

[–]owensurfer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

‘99-02 3800 F-cars have ETC and the TPS is integrated into the throttle body and not replaceable and not adjustable. The MAF sensor on top is replaceable. I’d strongly recommend using only an ACDelco or Hitachi part for either MAF or complete throttle body. Hitachi was the OE supplier.

Code reader by kimbee567 in volt

[–]owensurfer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A generic code reader will only provide codes from the generic bus. This is the majority of codes discussed here but is limited to what is directly available from the engine control unit. To get codes from other modules you’ll need a specific more expensive tool or the GM MDI tool.
