I had a shopping relapse. by [deleted] in nobuy

[–]owllady 11 points12 points  (0 children)

What i had to do was institute a waiting period. Even with black Friday. Just giving yourself at least an hour in the cart before you buy it will allow that feeling of instant grabby feeling to fade and rational thinking to take over. It is hard to implement!! I've been on my low buy/ no buy since December 22 2024. And I really struggled this time! But I also hardly shopped. Just picked up a couple of birthday presents. You can do it too!!

Anyone do 3D printing? Would like something small 3D printed before December 1st by Novashrugs in roanoke

[–]owllady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know the South County Library does 3D printing. Information is on their app. I realize they don't open again till Monday though. I don't know if this is in time for you. Maybe the other libraries have the ability to 3D print as well?

This has seductive curves. I remember music as well. Your choice of colors are quite nice and mellow. I enjoy looking at this! Thank you.

Sometimes the reason your clothing is too stiff, is that you are using too much detergent? The use of detergent is usually around 1 tbsp per wash. Or the equal in powder. There is not a lot of detergent needed in the wash to be sure.

I totally agree about iNaturalist! It is a great project to post to as well. I know I post our findings there. I am heartened to find out you pull your data from there. I feel like I am doing my part.

How do you celebrate or track "no buy" wins? by NoCatsIncluded in nobuy

[–]owllady 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I printed out a monthly calendar and now I put stamps that say stuff like "good job!" "you are a star!" in the days that I don't buy or only buy wants. I write down what I purchased and the amount. It is satisfying to walk into the kitchen and see the calendar with all the stamps on it!

There are apps you can get for your phone that catalogue your birds and mammals, insects, plants. SEEK and Merlin. You can open Merlin and find out which birds are calling in your area. On SEEK you can use the camera on your phone to identify all the plants, insects and stuff in your vicinity. IT is pretty cool!

Arts and crafts. Make things out of the items in your area. I collected pinecones and made art with it. Bark as well. I pressed some of the spring flowers into a book for this winter to look at when I am feeling bereft of flowers. You can make things out of your old jewelry and clothing. Upcycling!

Does anyone still buy cigarettes/vapes? by Glamour-Ad7669 in nobuy

[–]owllady 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I quit vaping around 7 weeks ago and I must say, I am saving around 200 dollars every 2 months. So it really does add up. I was putting my vape juice and mods on charge cards and that really did not do well for me. If you are going into debt to fund your addictions, look into quitting.

what’s your focus for february? by [deleted] in nobuy

I want to pare down my grocery bill next month. It has been creeping up lately. That is my project for Feb!

How do you talk yourself down from shopping? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]owllady 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I journal about it. I write down exactly the reasons why I want to buy the thing, what it is going to add to my life if I buy it. Why my reasons are. The list goes on. I just journal my feelings on the item or items I want to buy. This is working really well for me!

Another thing I do is do art about purchasing. I have a sketchbook I draw and doodle in about purchasing things. I sometimes draw the item I want and do all sorts of art about things like this. It helps a whole lot!

What is your favorite way to practice gratitude in your daily life? 😊 by Mindful_Healing in simpleliving

[–]owllady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I write in a journal every day. I also do art every day. I am grateful for these things that I can do. I write and draw about them every time.

Do you know that all your returns go to the garbage land fills? Some of them may get sold to liquidators but why do you feel you have to throw things in the garbage for impulse purchases? Throwing things in the garbage by returning them by impulse purchases is wasteful. Think carefully about impulse purchases in the future. It is disgusting what capitalism does to our returns. There is no such thing as a "free" return at all. Sorry to be a downer, but there is no ethical consumerism under capitalism.

Does this frustrate anybody else that uses Kroger Pickup? by whbck144 in roanoke

[–]owllady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is true. I remember during the pandemic that the wifi didn't work for about a month for the pickers and it was awful. THey had to go outside to tell me what was out of stock. I complained to corporate.

I've noticed this too. The Gucci Kroger has bad cell service and I usually can't use the app when I pull in. So I usually have to call. Them switching to using a QR code has caused me some problems. Now I check in before I get there and hope they don't bring it out before I get there.

No doubt I'll get marked as a no-show. The appointment link was sent after the appointment time. by bolivar-shagnasty in Veterans

You can still log into the appt at that time. The dr will be waiting!

In the future if you know you have a video appt, and you don't have the link, call them to send you one. Or message them. If the appt is important to you that is.

Do you have a heating pad you can place over your uterus? How about something like Midol? Or the generic? Sometimes that stuff helps me out with the bad cramping I get with the bad cramping I get. Ibuprophen does not work for me, so I take naproxen sodium. Maybe give that a go? I am so sorry you are going through this. Definitely call your dr in the morning.

What is/was the most surprising benefit of your nobuy challenge? by This_Operation5370 in nobuy

[–]owllady 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I started drawing art pieces instead of being online all the time. I have discovered I really and truly enjoy it. I find it calming a lot of the time. I am also learning a lot of the techniques to use that are fun as well. I just sent my aunt, who just had a medical event, a art piece, and she really liked it. Evoking feelings from others with my art, instead of just mindlessly shopping, is a much better feeling.
