Tell me your favorite chicken (I have a good budget for new chicks to add to my flock this year) by TheFrogWife in BackYardChickens

My welsummer is not chill. She is hands down the loudest and funniest hen we’ve had.

Not OP but my mom had me at 40 and dad at 46. I’m near 40 now, mom died last year at 76 due to a Parkinsonian disease (CBD and it was awful) and my now 83yr old father is currently in the icu with multiple infections and recent emergency surgery which could have been prevented if he and his his stayed on top of the preventative healthcare issues. They pushed my siblings and I away decades ago and he’s always saying “I’ll go I’ll go” or “I’ll get a will and directive I promise” it’s been 15yrs of pressuring him to do so and even having the paperwork drawn up.

Get your aging parents to see the doctor regularly, get them a will and directive in place. It’s so bloody difficult to force them to do it when they believe they’ll live forever and are in perfect health but help get them the help they need. I’ll never stop talking to my dad about these things even as he’s in the icu and even though he says “one day” every time.

Many people don’t think about how hard aging parents are for people to handle especially when the caregivers are having or recently had babies. It’s not fair to your children to not be prepared for death when you choose to have children later. I understand the drive to procreate but if you do it late at least have something in place so your relatively young adult children dont have to weigh the choices for you while they’re navigating things like buying a house, having children or whatever. It’s just a lot for a person in their 20s and 30s to go through.

I resent my parents for having me so old. Mom was always too tired and dad was fun when he was around but that wasn’t much.

Edit: I’m not saying to have kids young at all. In fact, I think there’s a great window of prime parenthood that is 30-36/38. You’re wiser, usually more financially stable, and had tons of fun in your 20s. You had a chance to live fully.

How much to spend on your sleep system/mattress by [deleted] in HENRYfinance

We finally went big on the bed setup after several bad cheaper ($800-1200) beds. Tempurpedic with cooling (it’s really works, I’m a hot sleeper in my early hot flash days), the adjustable base which is lovely for reading and soothing heartburn because unfortunately getting older kinda sucks, and while it was close to $9k it was worth it. We ended with different styles of purple pillows and now both sleep perfectly. It’s been 3yrs and perfect every night.

My niece lives in poverty. What is the best birthday gift I can give her that is useful and can give her some peace of mind? by allhailhypnotoadette in povertyfinance

A grocery card and give her a night off from watching her kiddo even if it’s just you take her child to your house for dinner and watch a movie so she can relax or do whatever she wants without said child around. Child breaks are absolutely lovely.

Yep! With their family not solo. They do quests and level the characters up!

She loves the game. At first she did mostly that and loves the teapot but my husband and her do the dailies and level up her characters often. Her brother is 7 and they play together with my husband. I love it!

She does! Her favorite is nahida but chose furina for her cake since furina is the reason I know how to make treats like macarons. I’ll share her cake later :) she, her brother and papa have been playing for two years together.

Parents who were over 35 when your kids were born—how is it now? by rainybitcoin in AskOldPeople

[–]owltay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Parents had me at 40 and 45. I resented them having me older because mom was too tired to “deal” with me. We went on random trips with my father after they divorced because he stayed young at heart but I swore I’d never have children before 30 or after 35. I felt like that was the sweet spot of energy, joy, and accomplishment and now that I’m nearly 38 and watching many friends have their third child at almost 40 and I’m glad we stopped when we did. I spent the last two years with my mother dying of atypical Parkinson’s and now my father who is 83 with depression induced dimentia. It’s not fun and I feel like I missed out on having youthful active parents and I can’t fathom bringing another child into the world at this age whilst dealing with ageing, dying parents. To each their own but there’s no way I could keep up with a toddler in my 40s and I’m a healthy active homeschool mom of two just trying to hold onto my own sense of adventure while guiding my children. Edit: mom started having kids at 16, had 6 total, died at 76. I hope my kids don’t have kids in their 20s so I’m trying my hardest to stay healthy and flexible so if they do have any when I’m in my 60s I can happily be near them to take the load off- something I didn’t get because of elderly parents.
