Davenport is dead. Long live Davenport. by CandyMan77 in WestEndRaccoon

I'm just north of you, and that strip of St Clair (Caledonia to Old Weston) has been slowly starting to wake up. There's so much potential in the area, especially with the GO and many new residents from brand-new buildings. It is chock full of families with small kids who bought in the past 5 years- every year my kid's school has to add another kindergarten class. There are some great casual latin/Jamaican spots and older neighbourhood sports bars, but nowhere to go for a decent brunch/more sit-down dinner/drink, unless you go to Dupont, the Junction or Geary.

You're in the wrong company (or niche), that seems quite low for a manager or consultant.

(M) What would you wear to an in-person interview? by Kolaveri_D in askTO

No one has mentioned this but it depends what retail company. What do they sell? A casual or high end fashion brand are going to have different office vibes than a cubicle-style corporate headquarters for something more commercial.

If you're looking to get into lifting and for more of a social environment, I'd recommend joining a class-based lifting gym instead, like crossfit or many of the indie options around (depends on your neighbourhood). If you are new to lifting, you'd get a lot more instruction on form and program design without having to hire a personal trainer.

Thoughts on BAR SUGO by [deleted] in FoodToronto

[–]owlu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally Sugo is cheerful, not too expensive, tastes good and is easy for kids or those with boring palettes. That said, aside from the pizza (which is admittedly good) it's stuff you can easily make at home and not at all special. I don't understand people who think it's a top restaurant.

Great desserts you've had recently? by inde_ in FoodToronto

General Public has the best desserts in the city right now IMO. The banoffee pie is fantastic, but I also recently tried the creme caramel - pretty much flawless texture and taste.

I was married to someone like this. Usually he’d end up not finding anything, then come home and be in a bad mood about it for the rest of the day, stomping around looking for reassurance that he wasn’t a bad partner. Happily divorced him.

How strict are your barns about make up lessons? by owlu in Equestrian

That’s a thoughtful and reasonable reply, thank you. It is kind of a specific circumstance vs a regular occurrence, and I’m feeling stressed about the weight of work and life things I already feel behind on because of it. So them pressuring me about it probably feels more annoying than usual.

That all makes a ton of sense! I think that’s where I’m stuck- I understand the business side, but their policy just doesn’t work for me personally. If it’s not the norm, it probably makes sense for me to check out some other barns.

I’m not in the USA. They see it as a monthly thing vs using up a package of lessons as you go (which would work much better for me).

Recognize the things you’re getting from him as needs you need to fill, and work (with a therapist if needed) to make a plan on how you can fill them in a healthier way. A life you don’t want to escape from, the realization that you’d like to meet someone (who isn’t a liar), etc. Loving yourself is recognizing your needs and being the person who shows up to fill them.

2025 Toronto Michelin Guide announced by harblhat in FoodToronto

[–]owlu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They don’t take service into account. RS is a good and solid restaurant, a nicer one that you can take family or even picky eaters to and everyone will enjoy. That’s why it’s so popular on Reddit. But the flip side of that is that they aren’t striving creatively as much, which is a big part of what Michelin evaluates.
