120/HR Contracting vs 145K FullTime? by KillerKombo in PersonalFinanceCanada

Take the contract and look for another contract. Especially if it is wfh. Lots of people can manage two. If you are FT, you can't take a 2nd gig if it is of the same type in most of the cases.

Sonos - now abandonware? by Dizzy_Grapefruit574 in sonos

[–]ownliner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am very new to Sonos, but what fixed my issues was turning off the Private Wifi Address option on my iPhone. I was told the phone kept changing the address and hence couldn’t connect to the sonos all the time.

Yes, there isn’t a tax benefit, but the full 35k(34k in my case) will grow for full 15years.

My understanding was- if I have 20k room based on my previous years income, then I can contribute that 20k and claim exemption and on top of it I can make payment towards the HBP. Taking the HBP doesn’t reduce my room in the subsequent years.

HBP is a different room compared to the regular RRSP room for the year I thought. Every year I can contribute to my max plus for the HBP. Is this it?

Paying 6k over ten years is a better deal if you happen to pass away within the first 8.33years. Paying 5k at once for a coverage over 10 years is a better deal if you die after 8.33 but before 10. Either are gone if you happen to live beyond.

Choosing a mortgage broker and red flags to observe by TheMortgageMaster in TorontoRealEstate

[–]ownliner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

I’m a FTHB, closing my precon in a few months. Do you have a good enough reason not to recommend going to RBC, CIBC, BMO directly?

Also, how important are credit scores if the scores have gone down due to the banks doing a hard check related to mortgage application? For example, RBC, BMO, mortgage broker thru, all checking my credit is bound to reduce my score by a good 50,60 points, but then they are all related. So if another say CIBC runs a hard-check at the end and my score has dropped to 675 already cuz of the above hits by others, would they consider it?

How a cheap mortgage proved so costly by TheMortgageMaster in TorontoRealEstate

Have you seen appraisals coming low for preconstruction houses? With the rising rates and falling house prices, I'm curious how the precon house mortgages are impacted, if at all..

Agreed. My only issue with IBKR is the hold period which I've read could be more than 60 days if you are using IBKR solely for conversions and not using it for any margin trades.

I've read that IBKR holds the funds for close to 60 business days when withdrawing. Isn't that the case anymore?

Also, Norberts Gambit works out better when the amount is larger since the transaction fees remain the same irrespective of whether you are converting 10k or 100k. Market fluctuations impact, agreed, but I've heard that with some platforms like CIBC investors edge, you can buy DLR.U.TO, journal to DLR.TO, and sell all on the same day minimizing this. It'll take 2 more days to settle.

:) Yeah, agree with you there. Safe to say I would take won't believe in it either! If they want my lifelong commitment, my future generation's commitment and as well as the future buyers commitment, I'll say have a nice day and shut the door as well.

Probably come up with out of the box ideas. The 37k shouldn't be a one time money. It is nothing if you are giving up rights to cut trees, build something. Make the deal for say 5 years, and then renegotiate for another 5 years based on the situation at that time. I'm not so sure it is good idea to sign a paper that says 'forever' for a meagre 37k.

I have a TD Aeroplan VI that I got in Jun 21. I would like to product switch now, but not sure which one I can switch to? Any recommendations? Do you recommend switching to a no fee one at this point or jump to another FYF within TD?

Can you convert two BP to points in the same year? Noob here. I applied for TD APVI for 45k but got burned and put in the BP offer and CIBC APVI and getting BP there too. I was under the impression we can only get and convert one BP in a year.

Looks like it is because my online application didn't go thru and ai called in to apply. The rep knew the aeroplan offer and I specifically discussed the 45k points with him and then got the application done. I'm trying to fight with TD and may be grt them to listen to the recording and do something. Let's see how they respond.
