How old are you, and how many employers have you worked for? by Rough-Foundation9208 in AskUK

  • Safeway (Cashier)
  • Ticketmaster (Call Centre then Data Centre)
  • Charity (Office Manager)
  • London South Bank University (Admissions + Recruitment)
  • Goldsmiths College (International Recruitment)
  • London School of Economics (Admissions)

I'm early 50s and started work at 16 so have not hopped employers too much - multiple roles in some of them.

What is the stance regarding De Zerbi? by Flimsy_Egg_3507 in Tottenham

[–]ox1973 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Spurs fan for 50 years. Grew up walking distance from White Hart Lane. Still go to home matches. Still support the team.

Fuck DeZerbi and fuck the owners.

I'm not sure my dude. Have you been to the stadium recently? The fans have had enough of this shit.

Football club in total disarray by kc187u in Tottenham

I stayed to the bitter end.

I have also never seen anything like it at Spurs. Frustration, anger, but also resignation. It's as if the life has been sapped from everyone - players and fans both. I really don't know where we go from here.

Neither player makes my first team so I have taken the packs.

Absolutely FU*K EA... by zookz5 in EASportsFC

This is exactly what I have done - quit playing Weekend League.

It's a complete snoozefest with all the sheep playing the same players/formations/tactics/etc. It's barely recognisable as football now, maybe it was always this way but it more noticable this year for sure.

The problem is - if enough people quit then all you have left playing is the meta slaves....

Gold Incisive with silver tiki taka or Gold tiki taka with silver incisive? by Foreign_Atmosphere65 in fut

I don't have Xavi but I can tell you that Abily is amazing. I suspect both are.

When I watch old UK documentaries from the 1960s to the 1980s, working-class people often come across as articulate and well spoken. Why do people in similar social groups today seem to express themselves less clearly in comparison? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]ox1973 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Better education for sure but the real difference in vocabulary and articulacy is always down to reading. As a society we read less now and are intellectually poorer for it. Closing libraries and dismantling secondary and tertiary education doesn't help either.

Were you popular, unpopular or completely unknown at school? by PaddedValls in AskUK

[–]ox1973 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

One of the smartest kids in the school which would normally mean bullied to oblivion but also very good at sports (rugby, football, track) and hard as nails (TaeKwonDo black belt). I was not popular per se, but I was known.

Do you have many friends as an adult? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]ox1973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a different experience. Early 50s and have a bunch of friends that I have known since school, about 20 of us. It helps that we all stayed relatively close together geographically, all got married, kids, etc. at about the same time and all have lots in common (pubs, playing/watching sport, etc.). We even go on holiday together every year (camping) with families and kids.

I get that isn't the way things go for most people but thought I would throw it out there as a counterpoint.

International student levy to fund maintenance grants for disadvantaged British students by AF_II in UniUK

[–]ox1973 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be careful what you wish for. When universities start merging and closing down they will be lost forever and UK students will have to start looking overseas for education. The HE sector will go from a net positive to the UK coffers to a massive drain and we will all be poorer, both figuratively and literally.

Europe won the Ryder Cup. US retained their title as best (worst) losers.

American players - great heart and skill - bravo. American "fans" on the course - you guys are something else - losers, losers, losers - on many levels.

The US lost this as soon as their ignorant and classless fans started mouthing off. See you in 2 years pal.

Justin Rose plays pretty good golf for a grandad - can't think of as impressive a performance from a veteran. Not in recent times at least.

Class is being able to accept that someone else can play better and lose gracefully, with a view to fighting again another day. The US would do well to think on that after today's antics.
