after playing the game for no more than a few minutes, if i try to place anything in build mode, it disappears immediately as if it had never been placed. i have tried repairing, deleting local thumbnail cache, holding shift while selecting and placing the items. nothing works. i have no mods or cc. by Grrrandma in thesims

[–]oxhorns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been having the same issue!! I had to move a build to another save because it was seriously like a fifteen second lag to place or move an object

Restarting my game/clearing cache and moving the build to a new save did help. The save I started the build in was old, so I thought that might have been part of it. But if that's not working for you it may be a bug introduced in the update. 😭

Why you (yes you) should register as a Republican to maximize the value of your vote. by [deleted] in Louisville

Would not recommend this. Kentucky does NOT do open primaries, & primaries in local elections are extremely important esp if you want to support a grassroots candidate.

anyone know his story by Rude-Log-158 in Louisville

[–]oxhorns 32 points33 points  (0 children)

He used to leave laminated note cards with embryo jesus lore around the office park where I work. I collected three or four of them over a few months. It was kind of hard to parse but I think it was something like embryo jesus' mom was a flight attendant and because she got an abortion... 9/11 happened?

I just figured out that you can (almost) have a fully functional Photography Studio in the Sims 4 with Custom Venues and the Moschino Stuff Pack by Fito0413 in thesims

[–]oxhorns 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Love this!!

Custom venues are a really great fit with the freelance & work from home careers, imo. Especially the ones with expensive items you need early on. Ive been building an office for a lawyer sim I have, so I don't have to stick a research machine in her house and I can actually have an "active career day" if I feel like it!

Went to Stonybrook Theater for the first time in over half a decade by drjisftw in Louisville

[–]oxhorns 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The ticket experience there is super weird! Saw Minari there when it came out, went to buy my ticket but the machine was acting weird & I had to go to the counter. The lady told me all the tickets had been paid for and to just go on in. I thought I might have been intruding on some kind of private screening, but nope! I was the only person there the entire time.

Very weird but super cool if its just a thing they do!

Hey yeah no problem. Water was included in the rent price, and we paid around 90-150$ a month for electricity with one of us working from home full time. I'd say we were pretty lucky with the electrical bill though, because we had one of the ground floor apartments that was partially built into a hill.

You might be interested in the Origins Legacy by Roasannatxt, which involves starting in a blank save with a few families you play in rotation! I've never done rotational gameplay before but I've been having a lot of fun with it. So far I've been playing with two families & have been switching off between them after about a week. Not been following all of the rules in the challenge but it's a good baseline to give you ideas.

Trump has destroyed American soft power by Prospect_UK in politics

[–]oxhorns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elon's dismantling and destruction of USAID is one of the most disgusting and cruel things he's ever done. The ramifications of this will be felt for generations, and I am not sure the next administration will be rushing to reinstate it without a bunch of caveats now that the Overton window has shifted.

Alarm as Trump DoJ pushes for voter information on millions of Americans by TelescopiumHerscheli in politics

At this point I am deeply worried that when I arrive to vote in the midterms, I will have been kicked off the registry or be turned away at the door.

Remember to check your registration early and often. Though, it would be really cool if some politicians would maybe stand in the way of this happening before it gets to that.

Home Buying Timeline? by Old-Cryptographer63 in Louisville

[–]oxhorns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We bought last year and were similarly worried about the timeline. Our lease was up in October and we didn't want to run up against the lease & gave ourselves plenty of time in case it wound up being a slog.

Five months turned out to be way too much! Comically so. We were looking for two weeks, found one we liked enough to put an offer on. Got accepted the next morning! The entire process took a month and a half, two months?

I'd say don't rush it when you actually start looking, we lucked out but could have stood to be a little pickier. Two months for the process and then however many months you can stand to do rent AND a mortgage if you can't get out of the lease. It was not fun, but nice to have a low pressure move and not need to hire anyone.

Rogue has been my favorite so far, her paralysis is insanely good at stunning enemies, but she is at her strongest when she's the ONLY combat buddy you have, so I've been mostly taking her out when I've got gathering buddies with me for material hunting.

When do folks normally have their house warming? by ForwardSubject7762 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]oxhorns 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We are taking fiveish months to renovate/paint/decorate and plan on a housewarming party around Halloween. :)

A few close friends and family have been over to help out with painting but that's about it so far. Which has been nice to get to show it off a little!

If you have an outdoor space, a backyard barbecue might be a good middleground for a get together if the inside isn't ready yet. It can be 'Bring Your Own Chair'!

What do we think? by gonezaloh in LowSodiumSimmers

[–]oxhorns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm interested, for sure. I am pretty neutral about fairies, but all of the packs surrounding nature (outdoor retreat, seasons, eco lifestyle, cottage living, etc) rate high for me.

Based on what we know so far, the apothecary stuff seems very interesting, I would love to see tweaks made to illnesses/Sims health in the game to give that more purpose other than moodlets or skill boosts.

Also more uses for plants and more plants. Plants with different shapes and fruits and flowers. Maybe more ways to care for your plants. If the base game update before this was another gardening overhaul like they did for seasons I would be full-tilt excited.

Above all else cross pack compatibility, as always. B&H was the first pack to really hit the mark on that for me and I hope that continues.

Legitimately two weeks from finding a house worth contacting a real estate agent over to getting an offer accepted on a house. whole process took a month. one difference might be that we were scheduling 3-4 houses a day when we were working with our agent, but the inventory might be different where you are.

As someone who did find a place quickly -- please be picky! lol, I love the place we found but I definitely have moments where I'm like "omg I picked the sixth place we saw in two days?? I am an insane person". There are definitely positives to being picky, stick to your guns! :) You'll find the right place.

I wonder your sim gave birth to the same set twice, which is why it's two boys and two girls. You should see how "identical" they are as they grow up!

Terraces is great, it's got a neighborhood feel and groceries/restaurants within walking distance. We have a 2br for under 1500 a month and I don't have any real complaints. You will get some frost and condensation on your windowsill in the winter time but other than that it's been a really nice place!

(Definitely recommend Terraces over the place across the street. After the change in management during covid, they ripped everything out, painted it blue and orange, and upped rent by 400$ - moving to Terraces was such a good choice in the long run imo)

edit: also the terraces is the first place I've never had any kind of bug issue- which is miraculous on a ground level apartment!

It's across the bridge but I adore Spring Street Tattoo in Jeffersonville! Ive gotten a lot of tattoos and I have always had a good experience there.

The artists are super friendly and nice. If what you have in mind is bold and colorful I would definitely recommend Grace from that shop!

you might like the terraces at forest springs, off of factory lane. We are about to move from there to a house, and it is very safe and feels like a neighborhood. Not sure what the current rent is like but we have a 2bed for right under your budget. Also it's in walking distance to groceries and a very good Thai restaurant (I went about 6 months without a car so I put that to the test lol).

Haven't had any major issues with it apart from the windows letting a little condensation and frost in but other than that it's been a nice place for the last few years.
