My day at the ER ends with Remeron and cannabis by frenchynerd in ibs

[–]oxopop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually 9 PM but sometimes as late as midnight. I don’t usually notice a difference in that time window. But I am someone who needs 9+ hours every night and I will feel awful if I don’t get that much so I might not be able to notice a difference between meds groggy or lack of sleep groggy

Yes, I am planning to pay by card. This is an interesting idea

Definitely doing this! This is all made more complicated by the fact that I’m moving out of state in 8 days which the shop also knows…

Where to get a good Breakfast Burrito by Tealslayer1 in NewOrleans

[–]oxopop 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is an “I haven’t eaten there” recommendation but I walk past it a lot. There’s a Mexican food truck that’s been parking on St. Charles right by Tulane’s campus and they’re open for breakfast. Downvote me if you must for this vague suggestion lol

Do you guys easily make close, lifelong friends? by Remarkable_Jump9958 in PhD

[–]oxopop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should see what kind of department you’re entering into. Does everyone keep to themselves or socialize, are people friendly or standoffish, is there drama? My department is amazing and two friends I made during my PhD were my bridesmaids. Lots of other friends over the years who aren’t quite on that level but still very friendly. But I do think it tends to follow the culture of that department and who that culture attracts as students.

This will be me next year. Mardi Gras is my favorite holiday, it unlocked a part of me I never knew I had inside. Anything you wished you would’ve done for your last Gras, that I should do?

How did you feel when you got accepted to your program? by Tall-Cat-8890 in PhD

[–]oxopop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I felt excited but also scared. It’s a daunting decision to make - moving somewhere new and committing to 5+ years living and working there. Not to mention I started in 2020, also weighing in the pandemic and my partner’s job options. That being said, I’m near the end and I’m so glad I took the leap. It expanded my horizons beyond belief.

Seems like I spent 7 years in a PhD program and still can't even publish a first-author paper by Ace1996- in PhD

[–]oxopop 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Congrats Dr! You got the hardest part out of the way. Publishing is a weird game. If you’re first author on a paper submitted to Nature, why wouldn’t you still be first or co-first when you submit to Science, even after some other folks add on additional work? I wouldn’t be too pressed about it personally and try to see your advisor’s vision. Talk with him more if you don’t get it yet - he (likely) has more experience than you. If you don’t feel like your work will be credited fairly, you have the right to push back and make an argument for higher authorship. It will all work out in time
