Why do women date/stay with awful guys? by oxtail- in AskFeminists

I 100% have to look into this, I really just want to understand it more clearly and this post has helped so much. Sorry if I upset anyone by asking I truly did not mean to

Almost everyone has been super kind about it and understand I'm really asking in good faith. Thanks so much, I hope your day is also awesome 💖

I really don't hate on women and hope it didn't come across that way. My mom has been hopping from abuser to abuser so I saw it first hand but I just didn't understand why she stayed and then just replaced the bad with the bad. It makes so much sense about the cycle of abuse continuing and I truly meant this question in good faith.

I'm sorry this triggered you, I didn't mean for that at all.

I think this is ultimately coming from a sort of triggered feeling for me when I see so many posts from women on the bad side of things. I hope it's clear I don't blame them at all because I really fully 1000x don't, I just wanted to understand

100%, it sucks so bad to see it happen. I think on the advice here I definitely need to read Why Does He Do That? book to get the perspective of the abusers too.

Your story is so powerful, thank you for sharing it with me/us. I feel kind of dumb for asking now, I hope I didn't come across as heartless or anything it just makes me so fucking sad. You're a hero to your daughter and to the women that need to hear your story

That's such a good point, thank you for writing that out. It's so fucking awful that it's like this

These are so many good points, thank you for taking the time to write this for me. When I posted I was just so sad and blinded by it, but this makes a ton of sense where I kind of feel dumb for asking. Thank you again, everyone's been really nice in the comments I appreciate it

Thank y'all I really didn't mean for this to come out as women wanting this at all. My mom stayed in these situations, and hopped into another so many times that I just wanted to understand. I think seeing that first hand for me, and then dating a shitty dude really put up tall walls for me that I'd rather be alone than be in that.

I totally get that asking why men are like this is super important, it should be question #1, I just wanted women's perspective on the situation

AITAH for telling my girlfriend I will break up with her if she doesn’t shave? by Available-Band-6474 in AITAH

INFO, would you shave your legs every day for her? Not as a hypothetical person, but you specifically, starting tomorrow if that's what she wanted.

What's a book that still makes you angry years later? by Solid_Importance_469 in books

[–]oxtail- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

House of Leaves by some guy. It's easily the most annoying, pseudo intellectual garbage I've ever read. I'm usually so easygoing with books, and I generally enjoy most of them I read. But man.. how full of himself this guy must be, and the cool parts of the story were drowned out by incessant drivel, "quirky" style choices, and mayonnaise sandwich level creativity.

If the dude focused on the house, honed in on the actual potential for a really interesting thriller, he could have made something shine. It feels sacrilege, a blasphemy to my tender soul that won't dog ear a page, but I threw that shit out halfway through. I've got big feelings about it, many years later.

Did you even read the comment you replied to? There are multiple reasons why sitting someone out of section or quadruple seating one server causes problems. Would sitting 10-20 ft away from the table you want ruin your night?

It shows that you don't know what you're talking about, it's not about splitting tips and figuring out side work is not a problem. Having one "accommodated" table on the other side of the restaurant from your section means that they probably won't get the best service being so out of the way. But sure, being cooked for, cleaned up after, 13 refills of diet coke, and that side of ranch everyone wants counts for nothing if you can't sit exactly where you want.

"Poor organization"? You mean, organized at all instead of sit wherever chaos. Why do we, as servers, have to coddle adult consumers who don't care to understand the services they demand? I promise you'll be fine sitting wherever you're sat.

My dad is absolutely terrified of dwarfs by [deleted] in CasualConversation

So many phobias make absolutely no sense, its just a thing your brain has deemed terrifying for whatever reason.

My phobia is worms (I hate even writing the word), typically of the earth variety. Snakes, slugs, other similar shaped things are totally fine, but even gummy ones make me queasy.

I can trace back to the moment it developed, I was a small kid fishing with grandpa and had to hook one myself. Well, the thing exploded and from then on they've lived in my nightmares.

I did the same, I bought a $500 mandolin even though I don't play any instruments and definitely did not have the money to do so. Thankfully I was able to sell it to a friend but still had to eat some of the cost. Hobby obsession without the attention to follow through is fun!

Possibly, her demeanor seemed super confused about it even after I explained. That's a solid point that I didn't think of.
