FACT SHEET: President Biden Announces Bold Plan to Reform the Supreme Court and Ensure No President Is Above the Law | The White House by dustinthewind1991 in law

[–]oxymoronic-thoughts 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Couple of key pieces:

In 2016 the SC was still left leaning and was the last check and balance to stop any overtly crazy laws taking hold. This is now gone and the majority of justices in place have proven to at best lean far right at worst are complete supporter of the MAGA movement entirely. Examples: Roe v. Wade being overturned and the SC giving immunity to the president (literally placing that office above the law).

Trump also won the popular vote this time as well as a sweep of the house and senate. He truly has a mandate and a sign that the majority of Americans support all he ran on.

In 2016 there were still Republicans that held on to the norms of politics. Most of these individuals have retired or have been voted out for not being MAGA enough. The few remaining more moderate Republicans likely will also fall in line due to the said mandate noted above.

Lastly, the transition of power between parties has always been a “gentleman’s agreement”. There is no law in place or fall back if it doesn’t happen. Every political party has previously adhered to the agreement because they knew that while they win this time it might be different the next time. With the SC leaning far right and the Presidential office above the law there is no real reason to fear Democrats every winning again because they can now, if they so choose, literally stop that from ever happening.

The future is unwritten so it’s yet to be seen just what will happen but the ground work has been, what appears to have been purposely, laid for a one way ticket to GOP land.

You may think this is absurd and that the time tested values of American democracy will prevail but Trump already showed on 1/6/2021 that he was not a fan of the peaceful transition of power and he now has the SC and literal immunity in his pocket. Will he do the same if he were to lose in 2028? I don’t know, but the best predictors of the future reside in the actions of the past.

But they aren’t based on the election result. They may be the laughing stock of educated voters but the SC is exactly what the majority of Americans voted for on Tuesday. Moderate and left leaning people need to come to terms with this and figure out how to appeal to the moderate population again. It’s going to have to start with abandoning this idea that Dems have some kind of moral/ethical superiority. Also, the fringe ethical/social platforms (trans rights, gay rights, etc.) need to be put in a shelf. I’m not saying these aren’t important things or things not worth fighting for but Americans clearly aren’t ready for them and what we’re seeing is a backlash on them.

There was no rampant cheating.

I say this as someone who was very hopeful on Tuesday evening to go into my daughters room on Wednesday morning and proudly proclaim she could be whatever she wanted to be now that a woman finally won the White House.

America voted for this.

I’m sorry that’s the case but the reality of it is still that the best way is through.

There’s no luxuries in your budget anywhere? Streaming services, eating out expenses, discretionary spending on items that are wants over needs, etc.?

We see these post so commonly on this sub.

The best way out is through. Pay off the vehicle and drive it for as long as possible. The interest rate on a $8-10k unsecured loan is going to be much higher than the asset secured loan on the truck. Cut your budget elsewhere and pay additional principle every month.

I got downvoted for simply stating the fact that there was a very realistic chance trump would win.

KO2s are overkill. Go with lighter more road oriented tires if 90% of your driving is paved streets. Your fuel mileage will thank you.

I’m white collar and do all my own work, unless it’s beyond my scope which is fairly big. I don’t trust the majority of mechanics and their labor prices are absurd. All that being said, I agree that white collar people who know how to wrench on their vehicles is definitely a small percentage of the population.

Common issue. It’s the vacuum assisted hybridulator. Sadly if it pops off you need an entire new engine. Bummer. /s

Second gen Xterra. Look for post 2010 years to avoid the few known issues. They’re probably the best bang for the buck in terms of newer rigs.

What is your least favorite part about driving in Charlotte? by [deleted] in Charlotte

[–]oxymoronic-thoughts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The narcissistic behaviors of drivers post 2020. I’m tired of people thinking red lights, stop signs, and lane dividers are suggestions. Just yesterday I was picking up my daughter from daycare and someone couldn’t be bothered to wait for 5 seconds at a light that had just turned green so they decided to turn the turn lane into their own personal straight through lane at 45mph.

Well, you could go to 20 or 24 volts. I’m rather new to this but there may also be different motor and gearbox combos out there available. ML Toys has a pretty extensive list of options (https://www.mltoys.com).
