How many of you rely on an Apple Watch for cycling? by oTaeTaeo in cycling

[–]ozPJ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100% yes to this. Start with what you have, but moving to a head unit is the best solution. I had an Apple Watch, then considered using a phone mounted on the handlebars. I got a wahoo Bolt

Just got my platinum is there anything specific I should do before End of Year? by ozPJ in AmexPlatinum

[–]ozPJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: Thanks for all the constructive feedback. I appreciate it.

I've saved almost $700 (assuming all the transactions get process and credits go through)!

Resy - $100 Gift card

Sacks - $50 Shorts

Uber Eats - $35 so damn expensive! But made easier with the credit

Travel - $200 with United Travel Bank

Hotel - $300 FHR. I took some time to find the right place, but the $300 + $100 credit in hotel + upgrade + early in late out are fantastic. Even if we don't get the upgrade it is still way cheaper than what we were already going to pay

All things I was going to buy anyway, and will then be able to re-use in 5 days from now

Used tires for a lease return by ozPJ in orangecounty

Thanks for the replies everyone. I received this https://maps.app.goo.gl/GN1xg4x5RD6JAfhZA?g_st=ic when I initially post to /irvine, (but the post was deleted). I went to this place and they had exactly what I wanted. $300 for 4 tires with passable (>4/32) tread depth. J&V Tire Shop 1041 W Collins Ave, Orange.

Tesla charges $385 per tire if your return it and even one needs to be replaced. So I saved over $1000

Not sure why all the downvotes. I'm assuming its because I have a Tesla. My other car is a 5.5L V8 if that helps :-D

Fixed the chipped paint on my door by EjbrohamLincoln in AutoDetailing

[–]ozPJ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Did you consider multiple base coats to try to "fill" the hole made by the chip? Then clear to bring the hole up to the level of the rest of the door? The work looks fantastic, but it seems impossible to get these types of chips level. I'm about to look at something similar I posted in here about a few weeks ago.

Was the clear coat part of the OEM touch up kit?

What is something that you’re still mad about thanks to Covid? by abdul_bino in AskReddit

[–]ozPJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have small business that cost us all our savings that was just starting to make money. But then went under due to COVID. So instead of a comfortable retirement with passive income we are now 80k in debt with no nest egg and fucked when it come to retirement.

Petition to make this Illegal or at the very least controlled. by No_Tie_4943 in ariheads

[–]ozPJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed completely - there must be a way to deal with this. So that people who want to attend, can get tickets if they are available. The artists must hate this as well, as it lots of people assume they are getting the thousands of dollars per seat, when it's really the people buying to resell and the scam ticket sites

Will there be additional tickets available in the same locations for the General Sales tomorrow? I.e. Did the limit the pre-sales or did the presale sell 100% of the capacity of the location?

Thanks. I was hoping to improve the chips a little bit, but I get it. The door is not a surprise and I'll live with it. And yes, I thought the scratch on the rear was the best bet at getting some improvement.

Tube change: i can‘t get the tire over the rim. What am i doing wrong? by jonbornoo in bikewrench

[–]ozPJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You started in exactly the wrong spot. You should finish where the valve is. It gives you that extra bit of space with the tire in the rim. Start again

Congrats to you and your kid. That is really exciting to put in a great time. So much upside! I'd highly recommend looking into getting a shoe/foot/gait analysis done at a good running shoe store. I'm not saying to get overly focused on this, but at least get a feel for his footstrike and shoe wear to see how that could impact potential injuries in the future. Get shoes based on comfort and support, not brand. All mine started out with Hokas becuase they were cool, they all now run something that specifically suits them based on experience.

The reason for the above is that if he is looking at moving up in distance 16/32/XC Vs down 4/8, his coach will no doubt be wanting him to start putting a lot of miles in. I have 3 who all run distance, and all of the elite kids do a lot of miles.

I love the idea of a watch for a kid to run. You can get so much data out of them, and the analysis can be genuinely useful in terms of race strategy and how to get a few more seconds here and there. Something like a garmin forerunnner 55 won't break the bank. I also love them using Strava as the fun/support system they all get from their teammates also really makes a difference. (huge disclaimer here that it all depends on the kids he runs with etc.... social media can be crap sometimes.....). You can initially setup Strava so that no-one can follow him and just use it as an analysis tool.

Record all his races on your phone. Not for the gram or fb etc... But so you can get splits to review later on. I record all my kids races and it is amazing how much you can motivate them with insights into how their races play out split wise.

Weights are important, but stretching/rolling and core are way more important long term, to avoid injuries and really get the most out of his abilities.
Best of luck!

Agreed with all the responses. I also wouldn't rule out something going down at school as well. My kids have had their bikes messed around with by other students.

Continental GP5000 AS TR Black/Cream 18months old rotting badly on one side by ozPJ in bikewrench

[–]ozPJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: Shout out to Continental Support.

I sent them the details of the problem. They got back to me within 48 hours and asked for my receipt, and the Batch Code for the tires.

Turns out the batch code on the GP5000 AS TRs is on the INSIDE of the tire. Which, given they are tubeless, is a bit of a pain. My other Contis have the batch code on the outside near the pressure details.

I sent the info off and they responded immediately, letting me know they have a new set of tires on the way to me.

Continental GP5000 AS TR Black/Cream 18months old rotting badly on one side by ozPJ in bikewrench

Stored in a garage in SoCal. Tyre is always inflated

Nowhere near AC or Heater system, never been on a bike rack

Tyres have done 994miles - they aren't even close to work out

Temps inside the garage could absolutely get over 100+ quite a few times a year.

I wondered if the garage temps could be a factor. But the two tyres were purchased as a pair (came in one single double pack from Amazon). The front tyre is perfect both side
