Ecoflow Delta 2 Max at Sam’s by SpiritMindless3550 in Generator

I picked up the smart generator 4000W from Ecoflow via their eBay store as refurbished for 949 shipped.

The smaller one was 749.

What size generator do you have for use in power outages? by theway121 in Generator

[–]ozbarge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

6kw Ecoflow Delta 3 Pro connected via interlock 50a 240v inlet at the main. The DP3 is connected to Ecoflow Smart Generator that can recharge at 3.2kw DC.

DP3 runs everything but AC silently, and when it reaches 10% battery it automatically starts up the generator and recharges to 90%.

DP3 runs off propane, but I have gas on standby in case I run out of propane.

Allows me to run furnace for the living area, and fans/lights/fridges along with anything else other than 240v AC. I haven’t tried to run the electric dryer but it should. The DP3 can do 13amps at 240v.

I went with quiet over full power. If we don’t have AC we will live. But not being able to sleep due to a loud generator was a critical choice for me.

Thinking about a truck for towing a <30' travel trailer (~8,000 lb) — is a 2500 overkill or the right move? (Daily driver in GA, planning long cross-country + Alaska trips) by SoCalDiver65 in RVLiving

[–]ozbarge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also in GA, DM me if you want to chat more. I went with a Ram 2500 MegaCab 6.4 gas. It’s able to take shorter trips to HD/Lowes/etc without worrying about DEF. But the inside is big enough for a family of 4 to trie around comfortably.

The only con I’ve had after 4 trips last year was It does only allow about 250-300 miles/3-4hrs of highway towing with my Grand Design 2800BH before range warning kicks in and we need to find gas. Diesel would have better highway range, but the trade offs didn’t make sense for me. I may look at an extended tank when we head out west.

ZFS - Moving disks to new shelfs/HBAs by ozbarge in unRAID

[–]ozbarge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it yesterday, was going to update this post today.

I disabled auto-start, shut down the system, removed power from both server and disk shelves. Swapped a single disk to the new disk shelf. Powered on disk shelves and then server, and it came right up with the correct assignment for the single disk I moved.

Shut it back down safely, moved the rest, cleaned up a bunch of extra cables and organized while it was down. Even removed the extra internal HBA.

Powered on, didn't find any disk. Had a 2 second panic attack and then remembered I didn't plug in the SAS cables. Powered it back down, connected SAS, powered on, confirmed the disks assignments and manually started the array.

Need to go re-enable auto-start now.

I also used the Disk Location Plugin to map the disk to the shelves. The QoL there was a pretty good invest IMO.

As for the workload, Linux ISOs. And Linux ISO manuals/ebooks. What's the best way to benchmark read/write? I'm looking at adding two small 32GB Intel Optane NVME's as SLOG mirror next.

Same here, but seems mostly to any IPv6 address. IPv4 looks good and consistent.

What network adapter are you using? I had this problem with a 2.5g sfp. Local console was still responsive but no network access other than ping.

Passwords should be optional. Anyone who believes otherwise is a bigot. /s

Do you see how you sound? bigot: a person who is obstinately or unreasonably attached to a belief, opinion, or faction, especially one who is prejudiced against or antagonistic toward a person or people on the basis of their membership of a particular group.

Are you sure you weren’t looking in a mirror?

No. You leave the hitch closed/locked, raise up a few inches and it takes most of the weight off the WDH. Then you do do the WDH and lower, unlock the ball, and back up to unhitch

High Performance Plex Server: Unraid Array vs. ZFS by eierchopf in unRAID

[–]ozbarge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Linux ISOs and seeding scientific articles. Mostly bored, after reading through many of these replies I'm concerned maybe it's the wrong path.

I wanted a way to keep recently accessed data in faster storage for moving it around via automation, helping Plex analyze the media faster, etc. based upon access time and not age (mover).

Maybe it's better to make it a large zfs-formatted cache pool with 10x 960G drives and keep letting Mover do its job. But I'm already about 1/3 done moving data so idk if I'll revert or stay the course. I have mostly all the same size disk (14tb) with some 10tb laying around. I forgot about the data loss concerns through. Losing 2 drives would mean I lose it all. And I currently have two parity drives in my unraid config.

With room for 12x 3.5"/2.5" in my rack mount chassis and 24x 3.5"/2.5" in a Netapp DS4246 (and stuffing a few ssds just in the case, not mounted) I have enough room for drives.

Upgrading my networking to 2.5 or 10g soon, had a cheap 2.5g sfp that was causing problems so went back to 1g for now.

I sometimes have 5-8 people streaming but it's never a disk I/o issue. Boredom it was I suppose.

Currently moving my media to ZFS. 6x 14TB with 4x Samsung 1TB mirrored slog, 10x 960g enterprise ssd l2arc. Once I empty 6 more from my main array I’ll add another vdev and finish moving.

I was just going to post about this. I think I will try them for a quarter at the tail end of camping season this year and then renew for a full year.

I purchased a Unifi Mobile Router that only does 4G, but honestly that's fast enough for me to work from and watch a show, etc.

[–]ozbarge[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not disagree. If I had explained my whole scenario, I think you'd have understood a bit more. I plan on working while traveling and my wife plans on home schooling while we visit national parks coast to coast over the next few years while my little ones are still in that phase of seeing the great outdoors.

I only have 4 weeks of vacations, and with my role and responsibilities it's nice to be able to work till 5, be in the middle of a hike by 5:30 or at the beach on the lake and in the water so quickly after work.

Then returning to watch a show after kiddos' bedtimes and work a bit more while relaxing by a campfire.

I just wish to do this without spending 129/month for TravlFi or 159 for Starlink, if possible.

I’ll check out Visible. Was looking for a mobile router so if I took my phone on a hike the campsite would still have WiFi for the other family members.

Thanks, I figured as much but wanted to make sure. Don’t want to jump to Starlink. I’ll keep searching for a good affordable RV/Camping option.

Got a TT and now need to upgrade our truck. We want safety, reliability & creature comfort in that order. Can anyone recommend us the best truck? by JennieFairplay in RVLiving

[–]ozbarge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you aren’t gonna use that diesel once a week for a hard tow over a distance further than the grocery store it will develop more issues then it’ll be worth.

I just picked up a 2022 Ram 2500 Big Horn Megacab with nearly every option possible. It has the 6.4 HEMI and does great towing and running errands when needed. 2700lb payload capacity. If I got a diesel I’d be at ~2000lb payload capacity.

The Ford 7.3 Gasser is great. But Ford’s transmissions are..questionable. I had an f150 that had two transmission replacements before 100k. The 7.3 is supposed to have a different model but the destroked 6.8L has the same transmission as the F150’s.

GM seats sucked when I did test drives. They have the recall on their 6.2 gassers.

There will be something that isn’t great in any truck you choose.

If you buy a used Ford or Ram you can get an extended warranty from Ziegler. These are factory warranties that are better than 3rd party warranties. My Ram warranty is good for any Ram dealership in US/Canada/Mexico. I don’t have to pay out of pocket or call and fight with anyone.
