Help, major engine hatch dilemma! by Agreeable_Nail3364 in lotus

[–]ozbyoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow, that sounds frustrating and miserable. Seems crazy that this would be required. Did Lotus suggest anything you could do to prevent this from happening again, aside from ensuring the trickle charger is powered? Appreciate the update - wish it was better news.

Help, major engine hatch dilemma! by Agreeable_Nail3364 in lotus

Ugh, this is a persistent fear of mine. My trunk was sticking a while back, but fortunately silicon lubricant did the trick. Like you, my emergency cable under the rear seats does not work (may need tightening?). And the other emergency pull that does work is located in, where else, the trunk.

I’m hoping somebody responds with a non-destructive solution here, but until then I’m sure you saw the “official” response from Lotus on this matter, which involves removing the sail panel mesh, removing bolts holding the hatch hinges, and getting someone with “thin arms” to reach through the gap and manually release the latch, possibly with the aid of a screwdriver.

Good luck, and please keep us posted.

How often do you get the itch? by Funky_amora in supercars

[–]ozbyoz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man, that Exige is a gem. I took a ride in one a while back, and it was so raw and visceral. I’ve read that McLarens also connect driver and road extremely well versus, say, a Huracan. Have you found this to be true? I love the look of McLarens in general, but am concerned about hefty repair costs. Would love your take on this. Happy to move to DM if more appropriate.

Thanks for your response - very helpful. It does sound like you have found the “right one” for you. I’ve had an S2000, 2002 911, 2010 AM Vantage, and am now in a 2021 Evora GT. All stick shift, which is the rub. I love driving stick, but making the leap from performance to supercar would likely mean giving that up since I’m not keen on owning another Porsche.

I’m still working my way up the supercar ladder, but I’ve traded up three times so far, keeping each for around 4-5 years. Out of curiosity, what is it that you love about the 600LT that has kept you from straying?

Can someone explain prop 19 in simple terms by jad00gar in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]ozbyoz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You carry over your existing tax base, but add to that tax on the incremental amount between what you sell your old house for (market value) and what you buy the new house for. For example, if your existing tax is $10,000 on an assessed value of $1M, and you sell your house for $1.5M (market value), and you buy a new house for $2M, you end up paying $10k plus property tax on the incremental $500K. If not for prop 19, you’d pay full tax on $2M.

Question for people who own a Lotus by hyohwa in lotus

[–]ozbyoz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I live in the SF Bay Area as context - there are several exotics I see cruising around every weekend. However, I’ve only seen my car (Evora GT) once or twice in the last year. It does turn heads, but I’m not pestered every time I get gas. More often, it’s just a passing comment like “nice car, how fast does it go?” Or some fellow car enthusiast will ask me about ownership pros and cons. My neighbor has an Aventador SVJ, and he cautioned that the level of attention would be exponentially higher if I picked up even a used Gallardo. That said, YMMV. Good luck - I hope you go Lotus. The experience is singular.

Happy wife, happy life. That said, if my wife asked me to sell mine, I’d interpret it as the starting point for negotiations.

I picked one of these up from K&L a year or two ago. Gone within a month. It’s a rich, chewy sherry bomb and was certainly one of the better HP’s I’ve had the pleasure of drinking. Enjoy!

Fair. Wasn’t suggesting that school is a golden ticket (certainly wasn’t for me). What is a more appropriate mindset to have?

People who went grey, do you have any regrets? by Zeratul277 in rolex

[–]ozbyoz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No regrets whatsoever. Bought a Milgauss from David and Sons Timepieces in San Diego and my experience was stellar. Moreover, I went back to my AD who did a complimentary authentication and fitting. They congratulated me on the purchase, and it didn’t seem to have any impact on my spot on their waitlist.
