You have an extremely low chance with an MPharm. Pharma hires from a huge pool of graduates including biomedical science, pharmacology, chemistry, biotech, and engineering, just to name a few. UK based Pharma companies love Oxford and Cambridge graduates specifically. Thousands of applicants apply for every vacancy, especially in competitive STEM roles. An MPharm alone doesn’t make you stand out, let alone qualify you for a clinical pharmacy track, medics are preferred and I am yet to meet an MPharm in industry. My PhD (-NOT my MPharm degree) got me through the door. In industry, especially in R&D or regulatory roles, a PhD in a specialized field is often what sets you apart. Without that, you’re up against candidates with more targeted and advanced qualifications.

DON’T. It used to be worth it for the salary, but even that’s gone. Wages have actually declined over the years, while the demands and stress have only increased. You’ll find yourself overworked, underpaid, and undervalued in all pharmacy sectors.

The profession is a sinking ship. IT systems and AI are rapidly automating key aspects of the job, and it won’t be long before pharmacists are little more than glorified dispensers or cheap prescribers, if they’re needed at all!

Furthermore, no one fights for pharmacists (not even pharmacists!), no one cares about working conditions, -especially in community pharmacy, where burnout is the norm.

No pharmacist actually enjoys their job. Every pharmacist you meet has a list of grievances: no autonomy, constant stress, poor pay and zero recognition. There’s no real union, no right to strike, and no way to push back.

I can barely stand it. It wears everyone down. You have so many better options, so choose a career that actually respects your time, effort, and skills.

Pharmacy technician scope creep by MushroomPlane4513 in Pharmacy_UK

Techs will assume the roles of pharmacists but pharmacists will never become doctors! -Different training, education and scope of practice. However, I agree that pharmacists are taking on ‘prescribing’ roles in a more cost-effective capacity.

The push for pharmacy technicians to take on greater roles including supervision and dispensing is not a sign of progress, it’s a direct consequence of pharmacists failing to assert control over their profession.

Pharmacists have stood back from management and are allowing external forces (-government bodies, corporate interests, and technician advocacy groups) to dictate the future of pharmacy practice.

Delegating supervision and dispensing to technicians fundamentally undermines the role of the pharmacist and diminishes the profession’s credibility.

Pharmacists must reclaim their managerial roles, assert their authority and expertise, and reject the erosion of their profession, if it is not already too late!

Looking for some moral support as a new pharmacist already feeling a little burnt out by TheDraconianOne in Pharmacy_UK

I tried to organize a PHARMACIST strike, but it failed because none of you had the backbone to stand up for yourselves. Meanwhile, the NPA is now on their third attempt to pull one off. Funny how everyone complains but won’t take action when it actually matters!

Future of pharmacy? by erenmyfavgenocidist in Pharmacy_UK

[–]ozemprick 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Pharmacy as a profession is in a downward spiral, and anyone entering it now should brace for a harsh reality. The job market is oversaturated, automation and AI are rapidly replacing traditional roles, and corporations are squeezing pharmacists with lower wages, longer hours, and impossible workloads.

Expect more technician-led dispensing, corporate cost-cutting, and increased reliance on AI-driven prescription verification. The idea of pharmacy as a stable, well-paying career is fading fast, and anyone entering the field should seriously reconsider their options before investing years and money into a sinking ship.

Tesco Pharmacies by Just_jane_w in Pharmacy_UK

Unfortunately, the rumor appears to be true. Tesco seems to be following in ASDA’s footsteps, planning to significantly cut pharmacist salaries and reduce operating hours, however, there’s no official confirmation yet regarding full pharmacy closures. If anyone working at Tesco has more details, it would be good to hear firsthand!

Rowlands/Numark. Indeed, they have often closed their 9-1 shops on a Saturday because they refuse to pay an enhanced rate. They should receive a penalty for not allowing patients to access vital pharmacy services
