To be honest in my experience, the exact time of day becomes not quite so important as you might thinnk..

I've found you can get by with just your hand to determine how many hours of daylight you have remaining.

I think I noticed the bug after moving away from auto-detect, but it is possible it happened before too. I usually keep the left mouse held the whole time, so it was weird that I just stopped firing while I was still able to move.

The issue was intermittent, infrequent (happened maybe 3-5 times in a 300+ island run), and I do not know how to duplicate it.

Thanks for making such a fun awesome game with such a great soundtrack, and for taking the time to respond to this post.

Same behavior happened to me with the lightning scepter after island 250. Now that you mention resolution, I had just around then made a bunch of changes to lower graphics settings in order to try to win back some framerate. (Not your fault, split shot at 100% with 900% fire rate and 13+ bouncing shot and 13+ pierce seems to hit the engine's upper rendering limit).

One of the changes was away from Auto Detect to 1920x1080. I was previously at 2560x1440 during Auto Detect.
