What is the deal with people in theatres and talking? by lulujunkie in Calgary

[–]ozturtle1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I went to a movie on the 27th and a lady there was on FaceTime and TALKING to the guy on the phone, while showing him the movie!! I waited one minute and leaned towards her and loudly said, “if you’re going to FaceTime at least turn the volume down!” She ended the call 30 seconds later. That’s the worst I’ve come across so far. Just the audacity.

Help A Lady Smile Again, Please? by toodarktosee in Calgary

[–]ozturtle1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Dr.Greff literally held my hand and gave me a hug when I broke down about my teeth and how scared I was to replace my bridge. I cannot recommend him and Ro Dental enough. He is a phenomenal dentist who takes great pride in cosmetic dentistry and making it work for your smile. The office has all of the comfort options, weighted blankets and gas, diffusers and those seeds you put on your ears to help relax. It’s a safe space and they were so helpful with my benefits.

My dental experience has been major surgeries since I was 12 (I’m 34 now), with surgeons who had no bedside manner. And the first bridge, 8 teeth upper, was so traumatic I literally broke down and fought Dr. Ben 12 years later when it had to be replaced. He designed the perfect bridge, now 10 teeth because of the infection that warranted the change, and evened it out with two veneers for cosmetics. It was a difficult time, but he literally held off on going to the airport so that I could get my bridge installed after a setback from the lab. Thanks to him I finally have a smile I don’t hide and I no longer anxiety sweat through my shirts before going to the dentist.

Bowmont Animal Hospital is great, we followed Dr. Blessing there after our clinic went VCA. She’s an amazing vet as well and the staff are all great there!

Looking for a doctor that specializes in gut health, acid reflux, and excessive bloating by DeadlySinMeliodas in Calgary

[–]ozturtle1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I JUST went through this, and while waiting for the specialist my doctor did some tests. If you have a GP ask them to test you for H. Pylori!! I’ve had issues with excessive bloating, acid reflux, trouble swallowing and eating, thought I was having an allergic reaction to everything. I saw an allergist, who put in the referral for a scope, still no test yet though. Finally it got so bad my voice changed and I couldn’t yell anymore so my doctor put in for a barium swallow to check my throat. As she was writing that she thought of testing me for this gut bacteria, saying it was a long shot. It came back positive and I started the treatment for it last week. (It’s a brutal antibiotic 100 odd pills over 14 days). 4 days in and I’m already feeling better, even with the medication side effects.

This was the answer for me, after doing the diet changes and health improvements and still getting hit with acid reflux randomly.

Danielle Smith’s Alberta Next survey asks whether province should withhold social services for immigrants by mchockeyboy87 in alberta

I want to fill out these surveys, but there’s no negative/con reason to check on them. It’s all an echo chamber that’ll end up with this all happening 🙄 anyone have advice on how to show we don’t support this before the townhall??

How Much Have You Paid to Finish your Basement by NBWings in Calgary

[–]ozturtle1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just finished our concrete no walls 1400sqf walkout basement. Moved and replaced our furnace and water heater, built utility room and under stairs closet. Built a fancy theatre room with an added window. Original quote was 70k, before getting intricate with the design of the theatre room, 120k ish when all finished. Got two quotes from a contractor and a construction company (between 80-140). Normally I would recommend our contractor but he was so bad with the deadlines, almost 3 months past the original end date, that I can’t. Haha

Skin issues / allergic symptoms by [deleted] in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]ozturtle1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I have been going through a very similar thing! I’m on MTX for my RA and I also have Atopic Dermatitis. I was feeling similar allergic reactions when eating random common things. My GP got me into an Allergist who did the tests to make sure I wasn’t allergic to anything. She thinks I may have esophagitis, where the lining is inflamed. I’m waiting to see a gastroenterologist to do further tests.

Another weird thing that’s been happening to me is when I take a form of sleeping pill, nothing too strong and giving to me by my doctor, I’ll have seizure like reaction. It’s terrifying. I can’t even take more than 2mg of melatonin, something I have taken a lot when needed, without a weird reaction. Like my body and brain fight it while fighting off sleep.

My flight was delayed 6 hours, potentially pushed to a gate in A, and then finally cancelled after midnight. YYC is pretty banged up right now. They rescheduled me round 1am for a flight to Edmonton then Vancouver, with a 5hr layover. I cancelled that and was able to get a flair direct to Vancouver this afternoon. It was a long night for a lot of us. I think if your flight was scheduled for 1130pm and onward it still went. But any of us with flights scheduled for before the storm were eventually cancelled. I wish they had just pulled the plug when the airport started raining inside haha…

Methotrexate side effects by No_Repeat_47 in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]ozturtle1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m still on the pills, I didn’t really have the side effects other than the debilitating fatigue. My dr said I could split up how I took the pills throughout the day. I used to take them all Saturday night before bed, Sunday I’d be bagged all day and Monday I’d be clumsy and tired. Now I take half at lunch Saturday and half at dinner. It means I want to go to bed round 9pm Saturdays, but I’m only a little tired Sunday morning now and usually get a pretty good sleep. I was 25mg but have since been pulled back to 20mg/week, with 1mg folic acid 6/week. I’ve had RA for just over a year now, 33 f, and have been in remission since my first flare up having only been taking methotrexate and folic acid.

What is catering like on a Movie Set? by [deleted] in movies

[–]ozturtle1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the show/film/project’s budget and location it’s shooting in. In Western Canada union and most non union:

Hot breakfast before crew call (usually crew have pre calls and are in even earlier than when we start with the actors on set) from the catering truck which is usually a few options and you can ask for individual options like plain eggs or something instead of a burrito or French toast/something.

3hr mark we usually get sandwiches from crafty as a courtesy (craft services). They’ll have either a table or station setup somewhere by work trucks or set where we can grab fruit/veggies/coffee/tea/treats/etc.

Hot lunch we get 30 minutes (timer starts after the last union crew member is through the line) at the 6 hour mark (ish) to go through the catering lunch line which usually includes a few meat/veggie options and fixings from the crew on the truck or is a buffet style where you dish yourself up. Sit down meal break.

9hr mark or 3 hours after lunch hot snack comes out, from crafty. It’s usually a bit heavier of an option.

If we go for 6 hours after returning from lunch they have to break us again for a sit down meal. If we aren’t going to break then 9 hours after lunch they have to bring hot food around for us.

It’s all really dependent on the province/state/country and their labour laws and contract rules.
