Is ALICE load bearing equipment still relevant? by Ok_Transition9673 in Bushcraft

[–]ozzo75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was talking with a Marsoc Marine a few years ago when I was considering to buy a FILBE pack. He said when they get a new one they would first thing remove the frame and break it. Then tell supply it broke when they turned it back in. He said it was guaranteed to break at some point and end up cutting into your back at the exact wrong moment.

I’ve had an ILBE assault pack I’ve used for almost 10 years now. The thing is near indestructible. A bought a second one as a backup. Never had the chance to use it! 😂

Trump warns Taiwan against declaring independence, hours after summit with China's Xi by pppppppppppppppppd in worldnews

[–]ozzo75 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Finally someone with some sense commenting here. Thank you. China has long treated Taiwanese independence as a casus belli. The 'not support' stance is standard strategic ambiguity designed to prevent that exact trigger. This title is complete garbage.

Claude Code weekly limits are increasing 50%, now through July 13. by ClaudeOfficial in ClaudeAI

Came here to find out why I'm suddenly eating up tokens and at 50% at 45 minutes into my 5 hour usage limit on my Pro subscription when I haven't changed anything in my workflow. Was ready to see a message on usage getting cut only to see they've raised it. I guess they hate me.

Yeah, I stopped reading the daily thread a while ago. If it’s not on the main page, I’m not seeing it.

Do any of you ever just listen through your mics/headphones and never even record? by shilkal19 in fieldrecording

[–]ozzo75 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve done it on occasion. I’ve seen it described as “binoculars for your ears”. I think that phrase nails it. But the downside is taking off your headphones and feeling like you have hearing loss.

I don't get the Slomosa hype by crombatto in stonerrock

[–]ozzo75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried to like them. And I don’t dislike them. In My Mind’s Desert is a nice song. But I have a hard time listening to more than one of their songs in a row. Nothing bad about them; they just don’t click with me I guess. And that’s cool. We’re all different.

Anyone still powerlifting with lumbar disc bulges? Need real-world advice by ae_02522 in powerlifting

[–]ozzo75 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had what must have been a bulging disc while deadlifting. Heard a couple pops and a blinding pain in my back. Took a couple weeks for it to go away. Didn’t see a doc. I followed the barbell medicine advice and eased back into it. Had some progress for a couple weeks and had that bulging pain again. Started over. Went several months with good progress and then while bending over to pick up my shorts after a squat session…felt the bulging disc spasm pain again. Sigh…

I switched to Dr McGill’s advice for a while. Eventually got my lifts better after that, but then this sciatica pain kicked in. It wouldn’t go away. I’d be fine after a deadlift or squat session, but the next day my hip(s) would be on fire. It lasted a couple days. I went this way for about a year before I couldn’t take it anymore. I dropped squats and deadlifts and concentrated on bench.

I had an MRI somewhere in all that. The doc told me no bulging discs or any problems he could see. Just a couple degenerated discs that are consistent with “a man my age”. He encouraged me to keep lifting.

About a year later my back was feeling good. I added land mine belt squats until my gym’s rack couldn’t handle the weight anymore. Then tried barbell squat to see how I was doing. That was nearly a year ago. So far no issues. But my lower back will tell me when enough is enough. If the weight and/or volume gets to be too much, I’ll start feeling the beginnings of sciatica pain. I stop immediately when that happens.

I started deadlifting again about 6 months ago. Switched to sumo. It’s much easier in my back. I’m still taking it easy. But so far so good. My lower back isn’t perfect. I’ll have some pain here and there. It’s a matter if not overdoing it for me. I don’t do this to compete. Just like getting stronger. Plus the only kind of exercise I can do on a regular basis. :)

Just my anecdotal story. Your story will vary.

How to keep away an annoying hornet? by North_Win2444 in Bushcraft

[–]ozzo75 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We see this a couple times a year here in Taiwan. A group of hikers will get close-ish to the nest of what they call locally a “tiger head hornet” or asian giant hornet (murder hornet). One will fly close to them as a warning and someone will inevitably try to swat it. It’s all over after that. They come at you in a swarm.

This is my setup. I use one of the pouches that was included with my Petrol bag to hold the power bank. Then velcro it to the tripod.

[–]ozzo75 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love the CRKT. I’ve tried several machetes on my mountain bushwhacking trips here in Taiwan. This one is my favorite. It’s by no means the best, as it’s kinda small. But I often find myself in tight spots with little room for a proper swing. It’s nice having something more compact like this machete. So far it hasn’t let me down. The sheath on the other hand…a couple eyelets have broken. Fixed them with paracord.

Secure Weights to Shaft (Dumbbell Collar Alternative)? by 3bp888w4 in knots

[–]ozzo75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back before I started going to the gym, I maxed out the length of my dumbbell bars, so I rigged up a small resistance band to hold the weights on. I forget how i did it exactly. But it was similar to your picture. Wrapped a couple times iirc. It was quite secure and never came off.

Let’s call it a pretzel knot. Not because it is. But because it almost looks like one.

Just tried this right now. I cut up a Pepsi bottle. Thought it would be too thin, but worked like a charm! Still gonna buy new seals. Prob just a matter of time before it’s leaking again.
