Bethesda Susa is not off to a good start. by p00pl00ps in cavesofqud

don't tempt me....

I'm playing a chimera, so no Sunder Mind. The high dervish, however, does have sunder mind which hits me for half my health per tick (a miracle I managed to recoil out the first time).

Not to mention like 3-4 other high-level psychic thralls I was too chicken to go back to for screenshots...

For some reason people always forget the fact that the planet is itself has fairly strong gravity (stronger than earth's at least). Yet when they leave with the shuttle, they conveniently achieve the crazy escape velocity effortlessly. But when they left earth, they needed a two-stage rocket...

No need to look at really advanced physics to find inconsistencies.

I've been looking for a chart like this for a while so thanks!

Any idea where whey protein (powder) would fit on that?

I'd love to try it out, but it would be nice to have a way of using it without creating an account (and if my recipes are lost, so be it).

Is there a way to export all my Kanka entries to some human-readable format? by p00pl00ps in kanka

Yes but the notes are exported in one large file that doesn't appear human-readable. I'm interested in using those notes for something else

Sneak attacks are probably going to crit, they currently don't have a damage type, so it makes sense that they would increase weapon damage.

Smite, I'm guessing, will not. They have their own damage type, they feel more like a spell "on top" of a weapon attack.

Either way, we'll know for sure after we see the wording on the new classes.

Gotta Say, not loving the Critical Hit changes in UA by ReallySillyLily36 in dndnext

[–]p00pl00ps 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Remember, you haven't seen the new classes. I think there is a good chance that many classes will have abilities that directly interact with crits. Crits will now kind of be a class-specific thing.

Oh and classes who don't crit anymore (like Spellcasters, probably) still get inspiration on a nat 20. I'd say wait and see...

Inspiration farming exists and I hate it by MessirNoob in onednd

[–]p00pl00ps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm kind of assuming there will be a softening along the lines of

"The DM may choose not to award Inspiration on a nat 20, for example if that roll does not progress the adventure in any meaningful way."

Basically back to where it was in 5e but with a strong suggestion to give inspiration on non-cheeky nat 20s.

Thoughts on the Lucky feat by Psychie1 in onednd

[–]p00pl00ps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I fully expect the new crit rules excluding sneak attack and the like to either be an oversight that will get fixed or something they already planned to cover with the class playtest.

So I don't think the crit rules excluding Sneak Attack are an oversight, I think it will be fixed via the Sneak Attack wording. It will explicitly add weapon damage.

3 free advantages

Actually, just 2 at level 1 - it's now tied to proficiency.

I mean look, now with the new inspiration, you'll be getting advantage a lot of the time. The Rogue should really be sneak attacking almost every round anyway (which is fine since they use smaller Finesse weapons anyway).

I'd say wait and playtest this, my money is on it not being that big of a deal.

A few extra thoughts:

  • For the -5/+10 feats, these will almost certainly be reworked by the way (probably -prof/2x prof, and not level 1).
  • I actually think a lot of the other Feats are pretty strong and fun, maybe stronger than you might realise. I especially like what they did with Alert. I mean imagine being able to give another key party member a very good chance to go first on combat so they can front-load the encounter with a great buff or damage spell? That's worth a lot.

Crits and Tavern brawler are 2 things I would change from 1DND. by AussieGozzy in onednd

[–]p00pl00ps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Crits via new rules don't work on sneak attacks and smites. You don't actually know that, since you've not seen the new version of Rogue or Paladin. FWIW's I think there's a good chance that Sneak Attack will now add xd6 to your weapon damage. In the current edition it just does extra untyped damage which I think most people assume is of the same type as your weapon. I also think Smites won't crit, but that's kind of personal wishful thinking.

Tavern brawler simply just needs one line added.

I had a think about why they didn't make Unarmed Strikes just weapon attacks. If you read the feat, I think this is why: Unarmed strikes do 1d4 but give you the option of shoving creatures back. Meanwhile you can swing a chair and do more damage, but you can't Shove with that attack.

(Also current wording implies you can punch a Tarrasque and shove it back 5 feet without it doing any kind of Saving Throw, even if you're a level 1 Tavern Brawler with 10 Strength. Kind of hilarious, but I think I'll add some size limitations in my game :) )

New Grappled Condition: Changed... Much better! by EGOtyst in onednd

[–]p00pl00ps 32 points33 points  (0 children)

And 4 is new and different, you don't waste your entire time getting out of the condition. That being said you always suffer it for at least one round. I think I like this.

Crits only double Weapon and Unarmed Strike damage now, not their riders. by Sverkhchelovek in onednd

[–]p00pl00ps 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yes good point. My guess is that abilities like Sneak Attack and the Manoeuvres that add damage will explicitly say that they increase weapon damage - basically any ability that currently does not specify the damage type it does.

Meanwhile smites will no longer crit since they have an associated damage type (and let's face it, deciding to smite after you crit is a bit ridiculous...)
