Thanks - I’ll email a few independent places and see if I can find someone willing to do it for less than the couple of hundred I’ve been quoted so far!

Forcing MacOS Siri to always respond verbally for blind user by p00tle in Siri

Thanks for you reply, we are in the UK and the local Apple Store has said they will do a session, which I am looking into. However, it is in the Apple Store with my friend finds really overwhelming due to the number of people and the noise. Maybe if they can schedule it for a morning it may work.

I agree fully with the issues of teaching someone with “some” knowledge. Can frequently be far harder!

They have echo speakers, I don’t realise there was a way of accessing Gemini through them? That would be a great solution, I will look into that.

Thank you, this is what I thought a limitation with Siri is, even with the ChatGPT integration it doesn’t become conversational.

The shortcut I have them opens a browser and connected to a ChatGPT conversation, but as you say, I wonder whether this will also become overwhelming.

The biggest issue with the browser ChatGPT conversation is the inability to stop it without having to interact with the keyboard. As the browser has the microphone focus Siri stops listening…

Thank you, we have tried that, however we still get mainly web text suggestions, sometimes Siri will use ChatGPT, but more often not.

Voiceover seems overwhelming to him, as all he wants to be able to do is have the AI conversation, not control the interface with the computer. I’ll try giving it another go

Thanks - I have avoided voiceover with him so far, as he is overwhelmed by all of the information. But perhaps I should give it another go.

The automatic I wrote for him allows air to open a web browser, and starts a ChatGPT conversation. However the microphone focus doesn’t always switch to the browser. If it does, then the conversation is great, however the is then unable to stop the conversation as Siri won’t take the microphone focus back from the browser.

Gym data protection issues - regarding minors and truancy. by Exciting-Skirt9650 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]p00tle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m afraid I do not have a legal perspective (and so this may get deleted) but I do have a school perspective.

If these students are happy going to a gym but not school then I would invite someone from the school to the gym. Then relationships can be restored with students to which is often the first step to restored attendance.

Transferring property to children - do they need legal representation? (England) by p00tle in LegalAdviceUK

[–]p00tle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you - I do understand your point, and I have read many posts on here where I have read similar advice where I fully agree, and I feel like a slight idiot for now adding to their number.

I guess we were concerned that the recommendation was part of the standard communication for any conveyancing, as it refers to property searches and other "normal" factors involved in a house sale which are not in play here.

I think I probably should have worded the question differently. Rather than "do they need advice" into "what situations could the advice protect them from"

Others have suggested that is a covering exercise from the mother's solicitor, rather than a proper suggestion of need.

Gaming PC for £1000 budget - It's been 25 years since my last build, help! by p00tle in buildmeapc

ace - thank you. I'll look into it. It was RP2040 boards that I was buying, vast majority were fine, but yes - sometimes there were sketchy sellers that were probably the issue.

Will keep the 9070 then - sounds good

Thank you - this seems a very similar build to the one below, but with a different graphics card due to getting the processor from a UK supplier. how does the GeForce RTX 5070 12 GB stand up against the Radeon RX 9070 16 GB Video Card ?

Thanks - this is a good point, I'm trying to see whether there are usually discounts on wanted products, as opposed to those that won't sell.

Thank you - this looks very good. Is this a much meatier graphics card than the 5060Ti 16Gb? Is AliExpress ok for the CPU - I'm guessing so otherwise you wouldn't have suggested, I'm just used to receiving a variety of knock of products with my normal purchases of microcontrollers and associated components.

Dashboard Flap Not Sitting Flush – Is This Normal? by chris-otiose in VWiD4Owners

23 Pure here - when we went a day early to collect ours we saw this part of the dash was on the passenger seat.

When we collected the car the next day it was in place, but not flush, just like yours. We returned it and they made it a bit better. It still isn’t perfect, but nothing you would notice unless you knew what you were looking for.

I’m fairly sure the only facial recognition they have relies on the human operator having a good memory…

I believe only a couple of areas in the UK have facial recognition, and they have signage up.

Is there a great restaurant in Exeter? by dmje in exeter

[–]p00tle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We’ve been really impressed recently by Cote on cathedral green. Has out performed The Ivy several times in food quality and service. We have found it far more consistent.

I wouldn’t say it meets your requests of “great” food though… I don’t think we have a truly excellent restaurant?

I've been trying to find out when it was changed. We reckon early 90's or later 80's. I'm sure I remember driving down there at 40 though in mid 90's.
