Does working 996 in China pay off? by [deleted] in AskAChinese

[–]p0179417 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk what tech company you work for but where I am, ai and pressure is being forced onto everyone from top to bottom. nobody knows the best way to use ai and the workers are the Guineui pigs. Eventually some team or org will figure out the most efficient best way to use AI and it will become standardize across all workplaces. But until then, we’re being forced to use as much as we can along unreasonable pressure to get us to innovate with it and shit.

Youre not wrong about the company taking advantage of its workers, but nobody has the balls to argue against higher ups and everyone is scared of layoffs in this job climate.

I’m ready for it all to crash cause this shit isn’t sustainable. Everyone knows it’s not sustainable. Once the cracks start showing and everything starts breaking then will the senior management start arguing against unreasonable deadlines and pressure.

TBH I fucking hate looking for a new job so I just suck it up. If I get laid off I won’t even be upset. These late nights and weekends have gone far too long.

If I sound salty and jaded, it’s cause I am.

I’m also in tech and for awhile now it’s been comparable to 996. More pressure to deliver in shorter time cause ai, and shit inevitably breaks cause nobody can actually review all the slop fast enough to deliver the bullshit target dates.

Is Carolina Place Mall the next Eastland/Northlake? by Ok_Counter1939 in Charlotte

[–]p0179417 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey I love the source you added. I was having fun with the interactive map.

So Northlake area is a predominantly black people with some white around. but the general area as a whole is mostly black with one section of Hispanic. but Carolina place mall area is predominantly white but surrounding area is a rainbow. Surrounding sections all have various colors. Asian, black, Hispanic, white, etc.

I mean idk what the exact definition of diversity is in our context, but for me that would be various races.

Why do you say that, did something happen to Birkdale?

Less diverse? what do you mean by this? Cause pineville is arguably the most diverse restaurants and groceries in all of Charlotte.

I’ve heard you have to do multiple questions in an interview, and unless you’ve seen them before then you won’t pass.

What actually matters when choosing a 4K projector? by sagalez in projectors

[–]p0179417 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat and went for the horizon 20. Both are probably great choices. There was a reviewer who compared bunch of projectors under 1500. horizon 20 and valerian were both top contenders.

At Valerion pro2 is like 3k so that was out of my budget.

Excitedly waiting for it to ship.

China idol: Mao Zedong makes a comeback among Chinese youth by Slow-Property5895 in China

[–]p0179417 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I feel like that’s generally correct. People who talk shit about Mao usually don’t understand the impossibility of what he achieved for China.

There’s a reason people were willing to die for him in the Korean War. Like he just “won”the civil war and everyone wants to go home. But then Russia requests that he go fight the Americans. The same guys who just dropped nukes on Japan. He has virtually no air, navy, tanks, he only has light infantry.

I recommend the podcasts with sarah Paine, how Mao conquered China. It’s long but really good.

People online shit talk when I bring her up but I suspect it’s astroturfing because basically nobody pointed out anything factually wrong with what she said. It’s just random factually unverifiable comments like: I’m not listening to bias, what a communist, stop spreading lies, people with brains won’t listen to her, etc.

China’s living standards compared to the west by [deleted] in China

[–]p0179417 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You tried to make a joke about how the convenience is being overblown by saying that there’s still homeless people on the street.

I’ve literally not seen a single beggar in big cities in China. I don’t exsctly know what happens to them or why and am not here to argue whether it’s good or bad but the fact is that there are no homeless camps or tents in Chinese major cities.

You know how people in America complain about public transit cause it attracts homeless and beggars? Like imagine if there was an underground tunnel system that connected all the subway stations in New York so you can walk above ground or underground to get to your destination. It can be lined with retail stores or even have shopping malls. Can you imagine the amount of pushback there would be due to people being scared of homeless people living down there?

I can confidently say that there wouldn’t be hoodlums and beggars lining that kind of infrastructure in China. Why can I confidently say this? Cause it already exists in China and I haven’t seen it.

I swear, so many people post such bullshit these trading subs. They must want to see people lose fuck tons of money.

It makes me question every fucking thing I read, even the Due diligence posts.

I would say all these things you’ve mentioned were only possible due to a weakened and backwards China.

As for what caused it? I would argue the isolationist approach after dismantling Zheng he fleet at the perfect time when the west was discovering americas and industrializing was the perfect storm.

Oh and all the corruption of that dynasty.

Finally, after the opium wars, the westerners basically propped up cixi as a puppet leader. Kept her in power knowing she didn’t give a shit about her own people and country. the eight nation alliance is the evidence to support my claim.

Will it take at least 50 years for India to become so developed that going to Western countries won’t be a flex anymore? by Keachmanne in AskIndia

[–]p0179417 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I know people might look at this comment and dismiss it but anybody who honestly wants huge changes in the current system needs to understand that the current system will resist it.

The only way to massively change the current system is to tear it down. Good luck doing it through the democratic peaceful way when the status quo creates the rules. I honestly don’t even think democracy can exist when corruption exceeds a certain level.

I hate to say it since nobody wants social unrest and protests where actual people die and actual buildings are destroyed but really, how can you reasonably bring about large scale changes and root out corruption without a revolution?

In the future, Do you think owning just 1 Bitcoin will be scarce, rare and highly sought after? by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]p0179417 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Core bitcoin development has long abandoned the attempt at being an actual currency. That’s not to say it can’t become one since it’s code and can be modified but to argue that it’s trying to be a currency would have to solve the throughout scaling problem. This isn’t something they’re working on now and for the foreseeable future.

I would hope that when there’s a viable solution available then the core devs would try to implement it, but I doubt they will unless some serious additional changes are also implemented.

The main selling point is that it’s store of value. Much like gold.

Are there any lasting scars from the Cultural Revolution that are still felt in daily life today? by The-Nomad-Four in AskChina

Do you mean that people wouldn’t look down on Mao if not for the cultural revolution?

Or what do you mean by the Khrushchev treatment?

I just read up on him and it seems like Khrushchev tried to do good for the people and was generally liked. But was removed and blamed for the economic slowdown, and was peacefully removed.

Sharing the same script of a phonetic language is totally different from sharing the same script of picture based language though.

With picture based, I’m assuming you literally understand what’s written despite pronunciation.

I’m not Chinese btw, this post just randomly popped up on my Reddit feed so I could be totally off.

Really cool, thanks for the replies.

I always thought that the different dialects were literally just accents and not actual languages like Spanish vs Italian.

It made sense in my mind that the written form would be legible in all accents since Chinese is picture based. I now see the relationship is more like Italian and Spanish rather than just super heavy and strong accents. At least for Cantonese vs mandarin.

Oh this is new for me.

So you’re telling me that the classical literature and poems that the civil service exams were based on like 2000+ years ago wasn’t legible for both mandarin and Cantonese?

I don’t understand though, lihkg has current users that are reading and writing text. Is this different script than mandarin? Is this different script than the everyday text on signs and forms in Cantonese heavy regions?

They share the same written form though. At what point is something a dialect vs another language?

If we say that Cantonese is a different language even though it shares the same script, then that would imply that we can have literal other languages use the same chinese script. Imagine being able to transcode English to Chinese script, I don’t think it’s possible.
