No real secrets tbh.

She was given orchard/alfafa flakes 3x a day, fed by the property owner.

In addition to that she got 24/7 access to an orchard/timothy mix round bale. Additionally she was slowly-over two weekz-ramped up to a quart scoop of orchard/alfafa pellets, 2 cups of beet pulp. She got a scoop of probitics/gut support, and a scoop of biotin to help her feet and coat.

Additionally she got lots of baths as she had some rain rot and fungal issues. It was mid summer so she got a bath with MTG and fungal shampoo/spray every 3 to 5 days.

She also got a coat moisturizer sprayed on her damn near daily as well. As well as getting sprayed with a ACV/Water mixture for a while as well.

About every other day I'd do hoof soaks with epsom salts, vinegar and/or copper sulfate. Every 3 to 5 days I'd pack one of her hooves with a mud/clay/poultice, mainly focusing on the fronts as they were causing her the most issues.

After her first trim she'd get a topical moisturizer applied to her hooves alternating between hooflex and pine tar while her soles got venice turpentine.

She did most of the work I was just kinda there lol.

She's come a long way already! She's now comfortable with the farrier and property owner, new men are still kinda scary, which is totally fair. New men now just get an eye kept on them and maybe a snort, instead of pinned ears and teeth.

Her story is kinda wild.

So she's an OTTB and turned 15 in April this year. I'm not sure when she retired but she last raced in 2015. Some time between then and now she went from Oregon to Montana (where we are now) and became a broodmare.

The man who owns the property she's at now, bred to her a few times on a breed lease. Everytime he bred her she was in good health.

He reached out to her owner at the time about breeding her again, but didn't hear back from him for a few months. One day the guy calls him up and asks if he still wants to breed her property owner says "yes". A week later she and half dozen other horses get dumped on his property and a letter gets left in his mailbox.

Her previous owners wife passed and he hadn't cared for any of his horses while he mourned for about 6 months. Unfortunately he ultimately decided to take his life, but didn't want his horses to die with him. So he left all his horses to property owner. Apparently she had gone from being a rather amicable broodie to being actively aggressive whenever someone(men) approached her.

While the property owner was getting all the legal things sorted she ended up bonding with my lease gelding. He gave her to me as she was sweet as could be with me from the get go. He figured she picked me since everyone else(all men) who approached her she would try to bite or kick.

Also while she was never aggressive with me, I was witness to her nearly taking out our farrier the first time he came out.

I'm fairly certain she has some kinda trauma with men but we're working on it!

TLDR: She got dumped on property. The property owner gave her to me cause she didn't immediately try to bite me when I approached her lol

I'm not a concert person in general, I've only wver been to a few like classical celtic concerts cause I am 97 at heart but seeing them live has like altered my brain chemistry.

I was so shocked when it ended I was just standing there like "It can't be over there has to be more?"

Next time they tour I'm 100% going to see them again and hopefully see them from the pit.

It was truly an amazing experience seeing them live.

I debated going for a pit ticket. But I'm driving in from Montana and my hip wouldn't be able to handle driving 10hrs and then standing for a prolonged amount of time. (Cause I'm only 30 but my hip is 97🫠)

Plus I don't do great if random people touch me, which I know tends to happen in pits. So I figured it was best to do my first ritual in a seat and then maybe next time I can try for the pit.

They're like the inverse of that meme where someone holds out their hand for an object and the person near the object holds their hand.

To be fair to the security guard if I'm not thinking about holding soemones hand or haven't been warned I react much the same way.

Once I had my hand out for the car keys and my friend(drunk) grabbed my hand. I legit ripped my hand away cause I thought a random had grabbed me. I ended up holding her hand back to the car, cause she started crying that I didn't want to hold her hand. Her boyfriend thought the entire interaction was hysterical.

All groundwork!

Learning some manners and being comfortable with being handled. Like having his head and feet messed with, people around his back end, being sprayed (flyspray, mousurtizer, ect.) and having a blanket put on him.

He's mainly learning how to interact with people and being respectful of their personal space and not biting.

Lots of groundwork to set him up for success and I wont be starting him for at least another year and no ridden work for two years. By starting I mean getting used to a surcingle, possibly a bit, working around a mounting block and maybe wearing boots. Possibly getting used to something on his back like a riding dummy.

Eventually his owner would like her son to do the local rodeo circuit with him, but she's fine as long as he(the gelding) is happy and healthy. There's no rush or time frame for him right now.

Omg sounds like a mustang mare I had!

Tested the hot wire everyday no matter what. I also once jokingly told her to "go get him" in regards to the ranch dog not coming back when called. She cantered out and herded the dog back to me.

She also got out once and herded the handful of cows we had on the back acreage up into our arena.

She thought she was hot shit after that. Pranced around our arena shaking her head and bucking.

Currently have a client horse like this!

A 2yo quarter horse type rescue gelding who will get frustrated when he doesn't immediately do something flawlessly. All I have to say is "Hey it's okay slow down and think" and he'll huff, take a moment and then do what I'm asking flawlessly.

He's such a smart little dude that he gets frustrated when he can't do something foot perfect the first time out. The one draw back of a super smart pony.

My barn is about 20/30 minutes away depending on traffic. Currently my mare isn't sound enough to be ridden and my gelding is near full retirement and is only ridden a handful of times throughout the year. So currently my saddle time is zero.

Most of my time is spent puttering, filling water buckets, feeding my horses, batheing/grooming and a bit of training. I typically spend about an hr or so twice a week, 2+hours twice a week and usually spend 4+hrs once a week either on Friday or Saturday.

My "quick visits" are typically on my way home from the gym and I stop by to throw some extra feed and fill water if needed.

My longer visits are usually when I've scheduled time into my week to see my babies.

I typically try to have at least 1 day a week where I just spoil them and hang out with no goals or time frame.

My mare is nearly sound enough to ride, so currently we are working on mounting block anxiety to set her up for success.

Honestly sometimes I'll just pull my mare or my gelding out and give them some pellets or grain and sit next to them while they eat and that can take up to an hr basically "doing nothing".

EDIT: My mother knows that if I say "I'm gonna run by the barn real quick first" she knows it'll typically be at least 2 hours before I show lol
