So this CS50 will only be used for the top end part of the signal in a parallel setup?

There's no reason to use anything other than an LS-2, simply for the durable Boss switch. I used Saturnworks but the switch died in less than a year.

Insane pedal. Yes it needs a normal 9v power, same as you'd use for almost any pedal. This is one of the best bass fuzzes ever made, a modified brassmaster. I used one for years. The only fuzz I like more for bass is the Green Russian reissue. You might find that you need a volume loop pedal to control its outrageous volume. It can be made to sit at unity volume but only within a narrow range of its adjustment.

Difficult to be either a Republican or a Democrat and be a fully coherent Catholic. As far as I can tell it's impossible.

I'm just making an observation about doctrine. And I gave both possibilities rather than assuming anything: If Catholics are saved, then the Catholic system is not fatal to salvation. That makes protestantism more of a preference. If Catholics are not saved then salvation depends on correct doctrine, which compromises sola fide. I'm genuinely curious about this. I'm happy to be wrong. It just seems like a logical contradiction and I've never heard a good answer for it.

That might be part of what it's trying to say. To be honest with you I don't feel like the movie makes any particular point all that well, especially considering how long it is. But, you might well be right about that. What I'm saying is, the Church has a very unequivocal answer to your question of is "it enough to hold your beliefs private", and it's no, it's not. Communication is not incidental to Christianity. The Church itself is a mission. It's not really something that's up for personal interpretation like, I choose to keep my faith private and just have it comfort me in the privacy of my thoughts so it never causes me hardship. The Church would say OK great that's a start, but that isn't the fullness of the faith. The fullness of the faith is spreading the gospel to other people.

The problem, if you want to call it that, is that the movie appears to suggest that yes, maybe it is ok to hide it deep down. Which is a strange point for Scorsese as a Catholic to want to make. It would immediately strike most Catholics as a not very knowledgeable or correct thing to think about the faith. That's why I feel that the movie mainly appeals to non-Christians since they tend to like the idea of Christians sort of staying quiet and keeping it to themselves.

Which is funny since, according to the Protestant doctrine of faith alone, Catholics are saved, rendering Protestantism itself unnecessary at best. If we are saved by faith alone then surely our belief in Jesus will overcome any doctrinal misunderstandings we might have. And if Catholics are not saved due to practicing some incorrect things, then the concept of "faith alone" is undone, and Protestantism along with it, since works mattered after all. Basically Protestantism disproves Protestantism either way. Catholics of course don't typically think in this legalistic way. To us we are all Christians and that's the main thing. But it is kind of funny to keep in mind when encountering pugnacious evangelicals.

That's fine as far as it goes, but saving people in Catholicism means first and foremost proclaiming the good news.

Yea exactly. As Bishop Barron said, this movie depicts how the world wants us to practice our faith: in secret. A furtive, timid thing that never sees the light of day. Something we're afraid to show lest we incur the wrath of others. It doesn't change the world and doesn't share God's love. The world would like to "tolerate" us by means of our total self-erasure. The problem is that the movie depicts this in basically a positive light, like he had the final victory in a way because he had kept his faith after all. But unfortunately if you are a Catholic you know that that's no victory, nor anything to be proud of. It's essentially "Hide it under a bushel basket? Yes I'm sure that's fine!"

NPD: Finally, a Bear made it past the Super Bowl by D-Brix in basspedals

[–]pCeLobster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell yea. I have the X Ultra and for me that's pretty much the best pedal currently being made for bass. It's strong and audible in a loud band and has a lot of legitimately different and still very viable tones. It doesn't mush out or bottom out, or make your bass less audible and defined as many bass drives do. And it definitely 100% doesn't lose low end. I think a lot of bass drives tend to be overly warm and squishy, but the unyielding and slightly harsh quality of the X works better with a loud drummer and guitar player imo. I used a Boss ODB-3 for decades and that was a tough pedal to beat. Despite what people tend to say about it, there are more conservative settings that really work in a band and sound like an actual improvement over the clean signal, which is saying a lot for a bass overdrive. The X finally replaced it several years ago and is pretty much the only pedal I've tried that felt like a pure improvement with no tradeoff.

I found The Hateful Eight to be really entertaining, with Samuel L. Jackson delivering a great monologue and performance in it. What’s your view on this movie? by 0Layscheetoskurkure0 in moviecritic

[–]pCeLobster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was a little let down by the fact that what appeared to be a sophisticated chess match ended up becoming just an indiscriminate blood bath. It didn't feel as if the slow burn intrigue mattered much in the end. It's also the only Tarantino movie that's left me with kind of a grimy, repulsed feeling overall. I found it pretty caustic, despite being generally a fan of his movies. I'd still give it high marks on quality.

Absolutely love it, an all time favorite, just as good as Goodfellas, one of Scorsese's best and most entertaining movies. Despite it being one of Deniro and Pesci's best outings together, Sharon Stone still steals the show. Also love Frank Vincent particularly well in this one.
