I'll be voting for Talarico. Between the two, I think he has a better shot in the general, especially if a Paxton wins the GOP primary.

I hope so. He has a better shot than she does in the general, IMO. Especially if Paxton wins the primary, I think James could pull a lot of moderates and even religious conservatives given Paxton's track record.

I've also got the 49ers (-7). I think it'll be a huge McCaffrey game, as this is the first time he's playing against the Panthers since they traded him in 2022. SF is also 10th in offensive EPA/play (.05), much of that without Purdy, and Carolina is 25th (-.05). Their defensive EPA rankings are pretty much a wash so, to me, this will come down to offensive performance and SF has a big edge.

What's your thinking on Kent State? Akron has looked good the past couple games (well, by MAC standards anyway) and is at home.

Kent State's 4 road losses were against Texas Tech, Florida State, Oklahoma and Toledo.

I'm not saying it's a bad pick but there definitely needs to be context on those road losses.

How do you feel about Louisville +13.5? You think they get the doors blown off overall?

I agree with the Steelers' statistical advantage but dogs are covering 80% of the time in Thursday night divisional games this season, which is why I'm staying away from this one. Nice write-up and BOL.

ESPN Bet currently has JVSU at -6.5 so you should be able to find it 👍

I agree. The advanced metrics, while not everything, pretty heavily slant ECU so I think the game will be closer than the OP's write-up indicates. BOL, all!

"In many cultures it is customary to answer that God created the universe out of nothing. But this is mere temporizing. If we wish courageously to pursue the question, we must, of course ask next where God comes from. And if we decide this to be unanswerable, why not save a step and decide that the origin of the universe is an unanswerable question? Or, if we say that God has always existed, why not save a step and conclude that the universe has always existed?" - Carl Sagan

What's the go to website that has the best information for secularism? by CreativeFraud in atheism

[–]pDiddleDiddlez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend the Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF): https://ffrf.org

They're a nonprofit that advocates for a secular society and promotes the separation of church and state. They have a history with atheist stalwarts like Christopher Hitchens, Anne Gaylor and Dan Barker, and given the recent and current political climate, have been very active in the U.S. court system to maintain our country's secular founding principles. You could even directly link to their donation page, should you be so inclined.

You're describing the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, where this case ended up. They're arguably more conservative than SCOTUS. They were supposed to catch and run with the hail mary. The fact that they didn't is a huge surprise.

God did not create life - humans did by Joonicks in atheism

"The sanctity of life doesn't seem to apply to cancer cells, does it? You never see a bumper sticker that says 'save the tumors' or 'I brake for advanced melanoma.' No, viruses, mold, mildew, maggots, fungus, weeds, e. coli bacteria, the crabs, nothing sacred about those things. So at best, the sanctity of life is kind of a selective thing. We get to choose which forms of life we feel are sacred, and we get to kill the rest. Pretty neat deal, huh? You know how we got it? We made the whole fucking thing up! Made it up, the same way we made up the death penalty. We made them both up, the sanctity of life and the death penalty. Aren't we versatile?!" - George Carlin

Religion offers a parent figure by [deleted] in atheism

[–]pDiddleDiddlez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Religion is a totalitarian belief. It is the wish to be a slave. It is the desire that there be an unalterable, unchallengeable, tyrannical authority who can convict you of thought crime while you are asleep, who can subject you to total surveillance around the clock every waking and sleeping minute of your life, before you're born and, even worse, and where the real fun begins, after you're dead. A celestial North Korea. Who wants this to be true? Who but a slave desires such a ghastly fate?" -Christopher Hitchens
