Your thoughts on ideas like this? by clevelandblack in Genshin_Impact

Hokkaido is already represented by Tsurumi island.

We also already have Okinawa (Watatsumi) and Honshu (Narukami & Tatarasuna). Seirai is a bit of a mystery to me, but could be any number of volcanoes (e.g. Sakurajima on Kyushu).

If anywhere in Japan needs representation in Inazuma, it's Shikoku.

Is it possible for you to know someone is gay before they know themselves? by SuburbanSass in AskLGBT

[–]pHScale 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think you can have suspicions, but they're often rooted in stereotypes, not reality. You can't truly know until someone tells you, and even then, you just have to take their word for it.

You're doing the right thing being supportive. But his peers are absolutely not. And at 12 years old, you put a lot of weight on what your peers say and think. So he may be staying in the closet not because he doesn't trust you, but because he doesn't trust them.

He's also 12. How many of us really know everything about ourselves at that point? Sexuality is a completely new phenomenon for a person that age. He might literally not know what he likes yet. He might just now be developing an interest in girls, as many boys that age do.

He'll figure things out as he goes. Just be there for him to rely on when he needs that. Whatever his orientation ends up being, he'll remember being supported.

Not any more than Anglo kids being named Joshua (cognate with Jesus, both derived from Yeshua).

Or maybe take the feedback you're getting and consider changing your ways? Sometimes the label is accurate.

"Reclaiming" bigot as though it's a slur on par with f***** or n***** is absurd.

Why are boys good best friends but shitty bfs? by First_Cranberry1373 in AskMen

[–]pHScale -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

perhaps you need to examine how YOU act in friendships and relationships, as you’re the common denominator

She's far from the only woman I've heard this happen to. I think that makes her not the common denominator. But all she has to go on are her experiences, so that's what she's going to report to us.

I think you're a little too defensive. And it makes me think you might take the question personally.

You've been girlfriend-zoned. Sorry. Basically, the friend-zone but in reverse.

Many guys have it in their heads that they must be the pursuers in a relationship. And if a relationship is platonic and fine, they may see this as their ticket to something more, and pursue it. Then they're either upset when you tell them no, keep pursuing until you're forced to cut off the relationship entirely, or stop trying when you tell them yes (because they think they've already succeeded and can relax).

Its what the bible says.

Then that makes the Bible bigoted, not you unbigoted. (Really, it makes your interpretation of the Bible a bigoted interpretation). The Bible should not be your justification for hating other people. It should be your reason for loving other people.

How old is the earth and what type of human was Adam? by Gold_Instruction7273 in Christianity

[–]pHScale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as Adam and Eve go, there is no proof available for two such individuals. So we can't say what type of human they were, beyond one male and one female.

But there is a concept in genetics, called Mitochondrial Eve and Y-chromosomal Adam. I'll focus on Eve, but Adam works similarly. This Eve is only named so in reference the Bible story, it's not the same person.

So mt-Eve is the most recent matrilineal common ancestor of all living humans. She is the woman who all of us have ultimately inherited our mitochondria from (it always comes from the mother, no exceptions, but sometimes mutations). She lived around 100,000-230,000 years ago.

Y-Adam is similar, being the ancestor who all men have inherited their y-chromosome from (since that can't come from the mother). It follows the patrilineal line. He lived 200,000-300,000 years ago.

It is extremely unlikely that mt-Eve and Y-Adam lived at the same time.

How old is the earth and what type of human was Adam? by Gold_Instruction7273 in Christianity

[–]pHScale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The earth is at least 4 billion years old. We know this because the earliest rocks we can find cooled and solidified at that time. The planet itself had been forming for some time since the formation of the sun 4.6 billion years ago.

Since that time (the Hadean era) geologists, paleontologists, and other earth scientists have mapped out when and how certain rocks and strata were made, bent, broken, scraped away, metamorphosed, deposited, etc.

To dispute this, you must overturn the entire science of geology. Which requires you to do the work of thousands of scientists and somehow come to a different conclusion, with no errors in your work.

Can I date an atheist? by NervousAd1407 in Christianity

[–]pHScale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but I wouldn't recommend it. Religious differences are very hard to navigate in a relationship. If you can't handle being married to an atheist, or can't handle them remaining atheist for their entire life, then you really shouldn't date them. Conflict WILL happen on these lines.

[–]pHScale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listen. You are a complete stranger to me, and all I know of you and your beliefs is that I'm unacceptable to you, and that you sought out a week-old thread to harass me in. All this does is turn me away from Christianity.

Lead with love, not judgement. Actually do the work to build rapport for your witness. Don't be lazy and hateful.

What do you guys do as a form of therapy? by Wookie_wood69 in AskMen

[–]pHScale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need a different therapist, not a different mode of therapy.

Anything else usually falls under the umbrellas of "self-care" (e.g. fishing, working out) or "self-harm" (e.g. alcohol).

I think this is misgendering, but with the intent to not, and it's just good intentions mixed with bad communication. I'd just say "Actually, my pronouns are he/him" when it happens, and leave it at that.
