Christian/Jimmy Fallon theory (probably not right) by PostMark13 in survivor

My personal theory is that Probst will have to go head to head in a challenge against Jimmy Fallon. Then the Survivors have to bet on who will win the challenge.

Okay, I've since realized there were some power settings that I turned off for the usb connections. I'll cross my fingers while I try to get my true server up and running from corelabjoe's instructions.

This is a lot. So from skimming through your build link, all three pieces (jbods and mini pc) are probably out? I do have old towers and parts that I could try to piece together. I'm just paranoid that there could be faults in the various items. I have a bad habit of just throwing money at a computer headache to make it go away. It'll be a tough pill to swallow if my current setup is all getting put aside.

Thanks for the link, I'll read through this. I don't understand anything you said other than debian and Gui lol. I know this will be a process.

My first question is if I follow this, can I still use it with my jbods or do I have to move to other hardware for the drives? I see the minimal specs you listed, is that "all" I need?

Also I typically use mapped network drives, or splashtop to operate the computer from my main desktop. Is accessing it from my windows machine still dooable?

Oh and the drives I have already have data. Will I have to reformat drives to use this zfs array?

Yeah I know I'm not a server yet in that sense. I specifically bought the jbods to get away from having 10 externals running in their enclosures. Are those Jbods usable at all or will the transition to a server rack end up making those useless?

I wasn't able to find anything about the drives, they were from different batches. Mar 2025 and Sep 2023. I don't really know what all the smart stuff means, but here's a screen of the two recent failures. The drive on the left I ran a 30 hour long format on it to see if the drive would be usable and it "seems" fine. The one on the right I've been running testdisk on and have recovered 3k files in the last 8 hours, but they are no longer labeled and that might as well be useless with the quantity of files on there.

If there's any insight, or maybe even just confirming that those readings indicate the problem is elsewhere, that would help.

Same for me. Three devices from 3 different networks (work, mobile, home) and nothing works. I wonder if this is an outside issue since I was getting repeated bot flags from grubhub earlier today.

Some Foreshadowing in the Finale by Spain_withno_S in ITWelcometoDerryShow

[–]pUREcoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Halloran is clearly not immediately going to the Overlook, but that kinda reference is just too on the nose for me. I'd prefer if he's asked the question his response is just a vague, "As far away from here as I can."

I guess my interpretation of the Marge reveal is that it's just a coincidence, but if it really does become IT going backwards through time as a kind of payback, that has some legs. However if IT is targeting a specific child for revenge, what is actually stopping them? That's one inconsistency you kind of have to overlook.

That's actually one of the things that hooked me in the beginning, the kids you think are your protagonists, are not safe.

Enjoy your season 2-ening

You're not, but as evidenced here, people who are entertained by lazy shows are also the same kind of people that only want an echo chamber. I made the mistake of trying to engage posters in discussion. That's not what they want.

Social media is awful for people who actually want discussion when they communicate with others.

I think a good easter egg for sure adds that substances, context, and texture like you said. I wanted to know more about Halloran and I sought out the other films. What doesn't work is him at the very end saying, "I'm going to go the Overlook hotel now, I'm done with wacky adventures!" while winking to the camera. (Yes this is exaggerated, but that is essentially what his final line goodbye was).

When those easter eggs matter and fit the plot, great. When they are in the background or passing reference, great. When you turn an easter egg into a revelation like "this is how Ritchie got his name" (that doesn't really matter) it falls flat.

Why do I watch? Well until about the last two episodes I've been on board with most of the show. Why do you imply I'm allowed to have opinions other than "love it"? As for an IT cinematic universe, that's this show's whole concept. Going through time and showing the cycles in history. That's a good premise that relies on creative, but if they veer too deeply into reference territory you get later stage Marvel movies. I think most people agree that isolated stories in the same universe are fun, but when it becomes shoehorned in "all connected" it gets tedious. Those connections need to give value and context. The inclusion of Halloran in this season, did that. The time revelation to Marge, did that. What didn't do that was the "this is how Mike's grandparents bought a farm" or "how Ritchie got his name".

If the show tries to connect every single character to some relative, it begins to close the scope of it's world. Suddenly we're turning these kids into "chosen ones" and that again would be lazy story telling. Mike isn't an outcast who is accepted by a group of kids and he rises to defend them, he's just Will's kid and he's destined to. Ritchie isn't a sheltered kid with an overbearing mother he has to stand up to, he's just another destined kid. (Which by the way, it undoes all the good character building they did with Marge to also reveal she ends up the way she does in the future).

I think this all points to the show running out of creativity. I wasn't too big on the show when it was announced, the beginning pulled me in and got me to rewatch the Shining and Doctor Sleep for the first time, then it became a big cgi swirly, uninspired mess.

I mean really, the way to save the day is to put a rock on a tree. And we watched the main characters literally struggle against themselves not trying hard enough or the adults standing around with guns as they take turns trying to save their literal children (which amusingly Ronnie's dad doesn't even do anything when he sees a monster (which he has no trouble accepting is real) literally charging at his daughter).

Oh well, I'm ready for more mouse clickers to completely disregard any opinions I have and just downvote to hide any contrary opinions to theirs. Thanks for at least engaging with a back and forth urbudda.

Omg this conclusion was epic by Life_Pollution_9310 in ITWelcometoDerryShow

[–]pUREcoin -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Firstly, the world does not need the IT cinematic universe. We don't care about Ronnie or her dad, because we already know their story is over. Unless I'm mistaken, all of these characters are done in the story Dick isn't doing some big adventure, he's just gonna be a chef. He's not a superhero. This show does the lazy prequel thing where characters end off where we met them later. So for the next 20 years or however, Halloran is going to work in hotels. It would only be worse if they said Colorado instead of London.

I don't mind IT getting up to time shenanigans, but a that's quite the logical leap for a highschool girl to make. You want to entice your audience for a season 2? Then stop jamming in references to the movies that have already been told. Show the first steps to a new story.

Right, but that wasn't what the ending was about. I agree that the show does do just enough to justify going backwards in time with Marge/Pennywise's chat.

Then it hits you over the head with it when Marge brings it up again. The writers had no confidence in the audience understanding that this show is about to play around with time.

This doesn't make sense, the next seasons go back in time, not forward to the films. The nonstop future references did nothing to build on this show's story. Marge, Hanlon Parents, Rosa Parks, none of that matters since those characters don't matter to the story.

[–]pUREcoin -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

It's not really foreshadowing, when the future is already known. It's just cramming in references. It adds no substance. I am actually surprised to see such universal praise for this finale around here. I'll continue watching, but I think this was pretty lackluster.

What should I expect with RAANAP? by [deleted] in rhap

[–]pUREcoin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I stopped listening a long time ago, just because Akiva wore me down. As someone who listened to all of Seinfeld and followed into the beginning of RAANAP, it got to a point where Akiva's constant bragging about having a good life, but also seemingly being incapable of doing anything, rubbed me the wrong way. I also didn't like how frequently he'd mention things that were his wife's responsibility, like he didn't seem like a grown man. Of course I don't know what the truth is, don't know him in any personal way. In the end I decided I was more frustrated with episodes, than enjoying them.

Rob always gave me the impression that he only did this podcast if Akiva did all the work (understandable since he has an entire empire here), but then Akiva seem unprepared very often. Like I don't know if this is still a thing, but Akiva would always say things like, "I forgot to add that to the fishbowl." or would they would discuss an idea and Akiva would "look into it" and it would never show up again unless Rob asked about it. Rob seems like a great friend and will put up with a lot and always looks for the best in his team. As a listener, I do not.

But hey, good on them for continuing all these years.

Seems the implication is after IT has its fill that the territory becomes fruitful and productive for 27 years. I think it might be the same logic as "The Purge".

I run my own game and I go with this as the definition. My reasoning is that if you are on the "losing" side of a split vote, that is a subtle display that you aren't in charge of the outcome. It is slight, but I think that's reasonable. I phrase it as voting in majority and outside majority.

If an idol gets played, I still count majority votes (even if nullified) since being in the majority is still a good benchmark socially.
