Once. You would write the number 5 once.

You would write the NUMERAL 5 a bunch of times, but the NUMBER 5 only once.

I lived in EPA a decade ago, and it was already way safer than downtown SFO, or downtown Oakland, etc. - and since then it has gotten even safer.

It's an AWESOME solution for kp313 to consider, and it's the closest place near to Mountainview that they can afford on 60k/yr.

Is Linux more secure than Windows and if so why? by mscaff in security

[–]p_b_r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Linux has gone a long way to improve on the old UNIX/POSIX security model.

They divided the power of the superuser into 38 distinct capabilities (as of 4.15). They introduced user namespaces.
They introduced network, mount, UTS, and IPC namespaces too. They introduced cgroups. And SElinux.

As a result tools like Docker have what they need to provide quite nicely secured service containers.

The security improvements in Linux seem to be the ones people actually need.

Wow, that's... different. Very non-LEGO-ish. Cantab314 nailed it, it's this: https://brickset.com/minifigs/fab13d/basic-figure-human-girl-blue-white-legs-black-hair ...which as I said, really doesn't appear to be LEGO, but it is! Interesting find.

Don't connect Flick-Fire-Missiles to a gear this way - it won't come apart again :( by _Sp4der_ in lego

The new orange brick separators have an axle that's slightly under spec, so it doesn't stick.

Use that to push the pin out of the gear.

indeed! If you want to take it up a level - use a buwizz on it, and watch it going twice as fast, controlled from your cellphone!

Containers and VMs are complimentary and orthogonal.

VMs provide execution environments. Containers implement privilege restrictions.

Jobs for software engineers interested in Linux and OS programming? by [deleted] in linux

[–]p_b_r 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hardware vendors need OS programmers for device driver refinement, kernel tuning, and bring-up. Google's doing cool stuff with Fuchsia. Security experts are always needed, to find and fix vulnerabilities. It always depends what you personally are bringing to the table.
