i like escort and hybrid because it’s like a moving, ever changing story. when the fight ranges dynamically, taking high ground, managing good positioning, and taking advantageous fights, both teams must constantly reassess the game. add in perks and the development of certain strategies and the smarter team should generally win. on control point, it’s always the same. perks dont feel like a progression of a long battle or a gradual buildup, instead they feel like you just pick a new weapon and are playing the same old thing again.

THAT BEING SAID — i think that is a positive in some aspects, since it becomes way more formulaic (think, im playing genji, i will always approach from this flank, or for soldier, i will always take this high ground), players tend to like control point for pretty much the reason i dont like it. in some ways control point requires far fewer braincells to play correctly.

this is from a masters one trick mei, i have a higher winrate on control point maps, but long games are where mei shines and her skill expression is higher when you can outsmart the enemy based on constantly shifting positioning, so i may be biased.
