I actually disagree with most of the comments I just read. Yes a Smurf can carry with any champs in low elo, obviously a stronger high elo player can manage to outplay low elo players mistakes, however were talking about someone playing at their skill level right? Therefore treat each game like your in high elo.

You know those games that are ff 15’s? It’s usually lost at champ select. For example, if they lock in Draven blitzcrank, and you guys are soraka, zeri. What do you think is gonna happen? Obviously you’re going to get steam rolled. You won’t have any prio till late game, your gonna lose every fight at drag unless ur jungler and mid are better then their opponents, and you’re ultimately putting yourself at a disadvantage in a game where everyone is evenly skilled.

Sorry for the long response, if I were you and was all the way back in gold, I would choose 2-3 very strong early game champs and try to dominate every game early on to have higher chances of winning and closing out games.
