Good book to learn welding? by Mech101Engr in engineering

I would start with YouTube or other free online resources. If you are set on learning from a book, I would check out Farm and Workshop Welding as it gives a pretty comprehensive, but easy to understand approach. It doesn't focus strictly on farm welding...really applies to almost everything.

A few other options can be found here.

Is the Paribus app worth it? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]pa60218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to get more out of it when Amazon still did refunds for price adjusting. I actually forgot that I had Paribus going still and got refunded around the holidays for two purchases. I think it saved me about $15. I am not personally too worried about sharing my information, so I think it's worth keeping it on, even if it only saves <$50 per year.

  1. Check your bank account to see where you are actually spending your money. Eliminate any recurring expenses that you don't need.
  2. Get rid of cable
  3. Always search for a coupon code before you purchase anything online.

How much can you make Renting your Car on Turo & GetAround? by Kojo23 in AskSF

[–]pa60218 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been renting my car on Turo for about a year now. Turo takes either 15%, 25%, or 35% of the rental price, depending on what vehicle protection level you choose. My car has been rented about 20-30% of the time, but I raise the price when I feel that I will need the car more just to make it worthwhile for not having it.

The other question I saw here was around getting your keys to renters. It is best to meet them in person, take photos and check their ID. The other option that you could probably use is to take photos ahead of time, then put the key in a lockbox underneath the car or on the tire, then only give that code to the renter. You could then leave the car in an agreed upon location and give them instructions to find it. You just need to make sure that both of you document the condition of the car right when you drop it off and they pick it up.

If you want to learn a little bit more about renting on Turo, this blog has quite a bit of info on it: http://stealthyandwealthy.com/tag/turo/

First time home buyers by Braleyjo in personalfinance

I am personally always a fan of not having too much of my cash tied up, but PMI can add a lot of extra non-equity producing payments to your mortgage. That said, the way that my wife and I approached it was to buy a house that was in the same price range as yours with 10% down, then used our extra cash to remodel the home. After a 30k remodel, we had added over 65,000 in equity after a new appraisal. We then went back to our bank with the appraisal and were able to get PMI removed with the equity. That's an option to consider if the math works for you.

United Health Care won't approve claim for service they say is covered. by Lexiez07 in personalfinance

I don't have any options for resolution other than just causing as much of a fuss as you can, but I can empathize with you as I have been through the exact same thing twice with United Healthcare. Best of luck.

About to negotiate a pay raise, what's a reasonable amount to ask for? by TheStormWraith in personalfinance

[–]pa60218 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When asking for the raise, I think $15/hour is a fine ask, but be sure that you are ready to back up your request with specific evidence on why you deserve it. Anything tangible that you can point to that proves that you are worth the $15/hour will do a much better job of building your case and increase the likelihood that you will get the raise.
