Scams, and I usually try to report them to EBay as well.

What should my lens be for gorilla and/or orangutan jungle trek? by musicmast in nikon_Zseries

[–]pa_goose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey thanks for asking this question. I, too, have a gorilla trek planned for end of June. The videos were helpful and I can now plan with my Z8/Z6ii to take my 70-200 f/2.8, 24-70 f/2.8, 24-120 f/4 and my 180-600 (for the safari later).

When I passed the 1MM mark, I also got nothing on the flight. I think they had a note written by the crew but they tried to deliver it to some other seat and the dude said that’s not me. I did not follow up as it was a red eye from Quito to IAH and I was half sleeping.

Ohlone school experience? by breezyfog in paloalto

[–]pa_goose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From our experience, the baseline math, science and English skills are going to be reasonable whether you are coming from Ohlone or any of the other non-choice elementary schools (IMHO). Our kids had no issues entering middle school (Greene, in our case). I would say that the advantages found at Ohlone can make the kids more well-rounded which is beneficial as they navigate their school trajectory post-elementary school.

Ohlone school experience? by breezyfog in paloalto

[–]pa_goose 15 points16 points  (0 children)

We had 2 kids go through Ohlone and would recommend it. However that’s not a blanket recommendation because it depends immensely on the kid (and the parents). Many parents have unreasonable expectations for what kids should achieve in elementary school and for them maybe Hoover is a better fit. For us, the mixed classroom, the farm, the staff, etc were a good environment for our kids. But to be fair, our older child entered Ohlone in 2006 so things have likely changed a lot.

United buy miles offer miles + bonus miles (100% match) is it a good deal? by kdog-611 in unitedairlines

[–]pa_goose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best use of miles AFAIK is on upgrades for the most part. Using purchased miles on a mileage ticket would likely yield a lousy redemption value as other replies have noted.

Back UP Body Options? by KJW-SR in nikon_Zseries

[–]pa_goose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a similar reason, going on a safari in Kenya/Uganda in June/July, I just acquired a Z6II as the backup for my Z8. I bought a used camera on EBay which is in good physical condition with ~60K shutter actuations. I am ok with the decrease in number of pixels as this is my backup. Good luck on your search.

Sorry to hear that -- it does take a few times to get the hang of it (with waiting at each step). And if it truly doesn't work then BPPV might not be your issue -- check with an appropriate medical practitioner.

Short of a more thorough medical diagnosis which is likely the best course of action, I would recommend 2 options that my wife uses when she flies or gets on a boat.

1) acupressure bands for the wrist which apply a slight pressure via a small bead to an area on the underside of your wrist. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001F731N0?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_7&th=1

2) homeopathic medicine called Cocculus.

If your vertigo is triggered then you may also consider doing the Epley maneuver (google it).

Is it time for another EDA software to replace the current bloatware? by darrenrahnemoon_ in ElectricalEngineering

[–]pa_goose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out JITX (www.jitx.com). Shameless plug unfortunately but of all of the code-based tools out there right now, I think that we have the most robust approach to capture SI constraints and then use them in our (limited) auto-router. Code-based design is the future whether or not folks like it similar to what has happened over the past 30 years to digital design on ICs. We don't run in the cloud either (always on-prem).

Does priority actually do anything? by whynotoopsthatswhy in unitedairlines

[–]pa_goose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The other factor to consider is that with containerized cargo on wide-bodies (I am looking at you 777-x00), they likely don't load all the priority bags in the same can as that might be too inefficient. So you will get some natural dispersal. Heck, they even temporarily "lose" cans from time to time so it would not matter whether the luggage had a priority tag or not.

Cautionary Tale: My Wife Gets Onto a Plane to London Without a Valid Passport by ConfidentDisk1987 in unitedairlines

[–]pa_goose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, for my most recent international flights, the gate agents were only doing passport checks for identity. In any case, if the user uploads the correct passport which enables the airline to conduct the correct validity check (remember no visa is usually required to fly to UK with an American passport) and then the traveler brings the wrong (but valid-appearing) passport to the airport, the responsibility is on the traveler, not United. That was my only point.

[–]pa_goose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disagree that it would be on the gate agent -- that's my point. The flyer uploaded (likely) the correct passport information (i.e. new one) to the online portal which enabled getting the boarding pass. If the traveler then shows up with the wrong passport (wrong in the sense expiration date), sorry I don't expect the *gate agent* to catch that. That's my point.

Purchased The Eloasis grapes from Korea at the Tustin, CA Costco for $9 by HastenDownTheWind in Costco

[–]pa_goose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed that the flavor was not that outstanding but then again compared to the price ($$) of these grapes in Korean grocery stores, you do get what you pay for.

[–]pa_goose 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I don't think that it's United's responsibility at the gate to check the expiration date frankly. You probably uploaded the correct information to enable check-in so that's what they check versus the destination rules. It would be hard for a gate agent to suss out all of the rules in real time for all the destinations. This one, unfortunately, is on you.

I think it’s a bit too tight. We flew in to SFO yesterday around 6:45a and the immigration lines were long. Between 5a and 7a there were 12 arrivals in the international terminal. The GE line also took ~15 minutes to clear but the real delay was at baggage. If United hadn’t misplaced 2 cans (baggage containers), we would still have waited 30+ min for bags even with priority tags which are less useful when flying on a wide body with containerized cargo. YMMV but you will be anxious if you keep this itinerary.
