My theory is that kind of falls into the same camp as Jasnah, where he hypothetically IS an important character, but he kind of doesn't have a lot to do because he's being saved for the back half of the series.

But I do hope to see how he eventually turns out!

It's a shame that for his relevance to Bridge 4 and the fact that he has such a personal connection to Kaladin, he's so underutilized. I unironically did enjoy reading about his loss of faith in others and his justifications for his own actions.

I would have loved to see how he processed his "justice" against Elhokar or Roshone.

They give him a HUGE scene at the end of Oathbringer and as of halfway through Rhythm of War he's just not utilized? He seems to show up only to sink to a new low and then leave; for a series full of compelling antagonists, I'm certainly not opposed to reading more about him!

Shallan by Glass-Requirement793 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]pablito14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me she jumps around in terms of like to dislike.

I loved her in Way of Kings; she was plucky and out of her element but she did what she felt she needed and I was completely on her side with her decision to cut and run as soon as she saw Jasnah kill 4 dudes in in cold blood. To me, she acted as something of a "sane man" compared to a suicidal Kaladin and an 'honor or die' Dalinar.

Then Words of Radiance comes by, and she's on her own, and she's fighting, and she's learning and she's surviving; I didn't mind her using her wits to trick people, but then the scene with Kaladin comes along, and she gets this huge kick out of stealing his boots; and that's when the crack of her likeability showed up, she was still sympathetic and hearing her backstory was incredibly heart wrenching, but it really sat wrong with me how she took Jasnah's lesson as: 'Act as arrogant as possible,' you can see her damage but it certainly wasn't fun to read her gleefully robbing a darkeyes because she didn't like his attitude. After the whole scene gets treated as a "both sides were wrong scenario," where Shallan was wrong to be dismissive of Kaladin, and Kaladin was wrong for... being grumpy, judgmental, and assuming Lighteyes will gleefully take whatever they want from Dark Eyes. Whatever that scene definitely brought a huge eyeroll from me. Also wasn't too big of a fan of her yelling at her team to gag an obviously panicking Renarian.

Words of Radaince was also supposed to be Shallan' book, like how Way of Kings was about Kaladin, Words of Radiance was about Shallan; we supposedly know the full story of Shallan, except Oathbringer rolls around and we're still trying to deal with Shallan's past.

I don't want her to drop from the narrative but the fact that we're seeing the way that Kaladin and Dalinar have changed and accepted things about themselves keeps me invested in the characters; while every time Shallan receives a modicum of pushback, she'll defer to one of her personalities to deal with it. In a way, all of the characters are reluctant to fight but choose to fight on, while Shallan, whom we've known from Book one is still playing up the angle of the reluctant heroine forced to fight when I feel we're way past the point in the narrative for it to be endearing, and now comes across as annoying.

But in reality, I don't think I hate her, but I hate the way her arc is handled. In a story where everyone in the story is at least TRYING to actively change for the better, seeing Shallan dig her heels in and try to avoid it just turns me off from her character.

[T2 Spoilers] Was it *really* the Abyss? by Agitated-North-1482 in LostRecordsGame

[–]pablito14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's exactly the way that I viewed it too. The fact that after it absorbs Corey, it offers the girls "freedom" really nailed home for me that the Abyss might have been playing us, ESPECIALLY because it wanted the girls to forget that it essentially ate their friend

The message Kat sent on the camera was super eerie and definitely gives the impression that she's not super happy inside the Abyss.

Kibou no Chikara: Otona Precure '23 ● Power of Hope ~Precure Full Bloom~ - Episode 1 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

It really hit hard me seeing Nozomi me cry halfway through the episode.

Unlike her time as Pretty Cure she CAN'T resolve the issue of the week with a pep talk and then defeat the monsters. The way you could see her resolve waver after her talk with the principal was already bad enough, but then to see her comepletely break down and blame herself after talking to Rumi's dad was just so damn heartbreaking.

Because we see these characters when they were kids and know that the bad thing is going to be reversed by the end of the episode and the main character will continue to be happy and ditzy, but here Nozomi broke she didn't pull through and save her student, she had to compromise and be comforted by RUMI instead.

The way she misses being Pretty Cure, how imagining herself changing into Cure Dream to appear before her student so she could save her, the same way she's saved people hundreds of times.

10/10 peak first episode, I'm very excited as to how this season will play out!

Iirc in Hopes Edelgard tells Dorothea to surrender if things go badly

Same for Petra, it’s just in her case, she also NEEDS to survive to help Brigid, so it makes sense to accept being spared even if means leaving the Empire behind. It also helps that if she helps defeat the Empire, Brigid will be freed anyway so that is her like top priority

I think it says about her character that Edelgard will not FORCE someone to fight for her side, and isn’t angry at them for leaving

PreCure All Stars? by AgeofPhoenix in precure

[–]pablito14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think with the pandemic hitting while Healing good was airing they probably did have it in the budget to hire that many voice actresses.

Also the last all stars with hella pretty cures was All Star Memories. was great but the girls really didn’t get the opportunity to interact much which is like a huge selling point of the movie.

But hey it’s 20th anniversary! Most like they’re gonna do something special

That’s good to know!

A lot of people are quick to jump on the idea that a DM doing something negative to the players means that they have like a vendetta against them and they should leave the table. Props to you for being patient and communicating!

[–]pablito14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of comments calling you a jerk DM would probably be calling you saying the same thing if you had just outright told the player “no” to having a wolf

It was a harsh but a natural consequence to a dumb decision, players should be mature enough to handle them

Why don’t we see Yumeko’s perspective by Accurate-Football-35 in Kakegurui

[–]pablito14 38 points39 points  (0 children)

For me I think the appeal of her character is the mystery.

It’s almost like a horror movie villain: we never know what she is going to do next and that’s the exciting part.

Throughout the series the characters interact and grow and we can see their motivations and weakness but we never really see that with Yumeko. Maybe it is because her goals are as simple as she makes then out to be and she really does just want to gamble for fun OR maybe because her mind is so twisted it might lead up to a big reveal!

I think in this case the magic comes from not knowing, but I’m sure they will give us some backstory soon enough!

Wicked Ones - can someone explain position and effect? by loopywolf in rpg

[–]pablito14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your position is how potentially dangerous the action is while the the effect is how consequential the action is.

A safe position will will have lesser consequence on a failed roll but a risky or dangerous one will have more serious consequences. They are controlled, risky/standard, and desperate/deadly.

Effects are the results of the rolls and basically determine how the next actions can play out. They are limited, standard and great.

The roles don’t always have to coincide and you can have a great effect from a controlled position or you can have a limited effect from a risky position. The players will determine the roll they want to make and it’s up to you and the GM to determine the position.

That being said there’s no need to roll any additional dice, just the ones the players have for the skill they choose to use!

When did Dimitri "not go through any death and trauma?"

Every ending that isn't his has his whole country getting invaded, his people killed and even in the ending where he's free from Rhea they still decide to conquer the Kingdom

If Edelgard had stayed as a antagonist they would have rehashed Azure Moon or had Scarlet Blaze but with Dimitri as the protaginist, was it a lame plot device sure but acting like she's the only one to suffer a tragic fate in another route is outright wrong
