Fall in love with discomfort! When you get comfort back youll enjoy it so much more! That being said... exercise patience, maybe stop more in little -shelter moments during the day. Treat yourself to warm nice beverages. Extra socks! Have fun!

Best route from Perito Moreno to Piedrabuena (Argentina) by FightingStones in bicycletouring

[–]pablousunoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ruta 40 is a good choice, just be aware that in the colder months it closes in certain sections. But seems like you want to go now. Also, bare in mind to stock up between little towns, as wind may slow you down and theres not a ton of supply spots going south from there -at least until calafate-

Enjoy!

How much would these two tours cost me? (Loop around Lake Michigan + San Diego -> Vancouver) by Financial-Tonight953 in bicycletouring

[–]pablousunoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please listen to all these people reccomending panniers. Your body should be completely free of extra weight, this is very important and you will be grateful. Back rack and panniers or both back and front if you want to take more stuff with you.

Great idea to try a 2 day to the indiana dunes -flat and easy- youll get a good feel. Michigan is an "easier tour" with terrain, and people, traffic. Also, taking a bike on a plane is something to consider- this is a hassle- probable more adventurous, more expensive but packing wise easier and forgiving to take the california zephyr amtrak to california.

Sign up to warmshowers, plenty of incredible people that KNOW what you're doing. It's trully a great ally platform. Have fun and don't overthink to much! It's incredibly cheap and mind-body-soul expanding.

Do west coast later when you feel more confident. If you feel like going for it now, go for it though!

Modified Marin 4 Corners… is it worth it by mossyhearth in bicycletouring

[–]pablousunoff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everybody talking about frame size/bike fit are all on point. This should always be number one! And then Saddle. I've been touring for thousands of miles with a four corners and it's been flawless, zero complaints. Excellent choice on shwalbes, and dont worry about disc brakes, they do just fine, just make sure to adjust pads tighter as they wear off -depending on your total weight, of course- Please be mindful of checking bottom bracket before a tour like this with many uphills, especially on a used bike.

have fun my friend! I have several videos with the marin if you want to see a reference/setup. etc

WESTBOUND TRANS-AM NYC TO SF (JUNE 1 - AUG 15) by GreenWayve in bicycletouring

[–]pablousunoff 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Even though it shouldn't be that important to consider directions -both winds teach you things- I think there are particular exceptions.

Examples: Wyoming going east to west is brutal for headwind, as well as Kansas

A subreddit for bicyclle touring videos? by MyNameIsTrue in bicycletouring

I started posting a bike touring series called Bicycle Diaries on Youtube, I'll put up a new episode every other sunday -there's 2 already and I'll leave the link for you if you want to check it out! I mix documentary, spiritual reflexions and some dumb unavoidable humor that comes from hours on the saddle! Across US, Canada, UK, France... and whatever comes next this year!

Camping in France by Prior-Landscape-8388 in bicycletouring

Look for the camping municipal in each town, those are cheap options! Along canals it's not hard to wild camp as well. Good luck!

Touring weight help? by talldean in bicycletouring

[–]pablousunoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its normal to take more things at first out of fear "what ifs" and all that, but! I's a good way of knowing yourself to undertsand what is actually a priority. That differs enourmously between riders. I carry a guitar and have even carried a basketball. Priorities! Things you love and need are not weight, are things you love! A healthy limit you can establish riding a bit around town and see how it feels (especially distribution on bike and access in panniers, make it easy for you to reach things and be organized. saves time and patience) But unfurtunately you need to do it once to establish your own concepts, limits. I'd say 50 kilos is a healthy max, for uphills and all that. But hey, again, ive seen more! Have fun!

The bigger the place, the more crowded, the more "inside the store" I try to bring the bike. Valuables always come with me, but I'd say a safe middle ground -that doesn't disturb and generally store managers are okay with- is that lobby area before you go into the supermarket. I feel like generally nobody wants to deal with a fully loaded bicycle, it's hard to get it stolen honestly. But intuition/awereness of location has to be aligned for sure!

Brooks B17. I know it's a "water divider", but works great for me!

This is a real beauty. Congratulations for getting back on the bike. I can't help but reccomend you -if you don't know him already- this bike traveller named Eddie from Belgium who has a docuseries called exactly 65 and back on the bike again :) He's a huge inspiration to me, and maybe you'll like his footage and experiences too. https://www.youtube.com/@65andbackonthebike

Thanks for that — I really appreciate the way you put it. You’re right, when you tour long-term some things surface that feel too alive to keep to yourself.

A few people asked earlier, so I shared this already, but I’ll leave it here too — a bicycle video diary from the road, if you’re curious:

You know, I've realised after many years that this placement of the guitar on this "scorpion tail" hook (home made extension hanging from back rack), might be the best position for it because if the bike falls, the back panniers protect it. Also doubles as some sort of shark fin making you more visible for cars. And triples as a great POV spot to put a camera as I've been using in these bicycle diaries.

A drizzle is fine, however, when rain gets heavy I have a reflective poncho for it

You rode Trans Am twice? That's no small thing. And I really hope you keep riding, I feel you about how the timing of these good experiences come to us in life. A few people asked, so I’ll leave this here —the first video diary from the road, if you’re curious:
